The anticipation surrounding Arch Manning has reached a fever pitch as the former No. 1 recruit prepares to take over as Texas’ starting quarterback for the 2025 season. While the spotlight is intense, his uncle Peyton Manning believes the young signal caller is primed to thrive in Steve Sarkisian‘s offense – thanks to patience, development, and continuity.

Manning has spent the past two years learning behind Quinn Ewers instead of seeking immediate playing time elsewhere. In an era dominated by transfer movement, his decision to stay and grow within the Longhorns‘ system stands out. According to Peyton, that commitment is about to pay off.
“It’s more than just the football program,” Peyton Manning told The Sporting News. “You like going to school there. You like the head coach who also calls the plays, and that creates great continuity. To me, the Kyle Shanahans, the Sean McVays — when the head coach is calling the plays — the quarterback is going to thrive in the same system every single year.”

Familiarity with Sarkisian’s system gives Manning an edge
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is renowned for crafting high-powered offenses, and over the last two seasons, he has helped groom Arch Manning into a quarterback who can succeed at the highest level. Sarkisian’s dual role as head coach and play-caller ensures a level of consistency that Peyton says is crucial for young quarterbacks.
“The fact that this will be Arch‘s third year in that system, he’ll have great knowledge of the system – still hasn’t had on-the-field game reps as I’m sure he would have liked, but those will come this year,” Peyton added. “There will be things for him to learn, but I’m proud of him for his commitment and I’m looking forward to watching him play.”
Though Manning has only started two games and attempted 95 passes over his first two seasons, he showed promise with a completion rate of 66.3 percent, 969 passing yards, and a 9-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. His athleticism adds another layer to his game, as he also contributed 108 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
One of his most memorable moments came last season when he broke away for a long run, showcasing the speed that makes him such a dynamic threat. Sarkisian has already hinted at tailoring the offense to highlight Manning‘s ability to extend plays and create mismatches.
If everything falls into place, Manning could emerge as one of the most exciting quarterbacks in college football – and possibly as a top NFL Draft prospect by season’s end.
The road ahead includes growing pains, but the foundation he has built over the past two seasons sets the stage for a breakout campaign in Austin.
