Předloňská wimbledonská šampionka Vondroušová si návrat na trávu patřičně užívá. V prvním kole v německé metropoli vyřadila vítězku letošního Australian Open, Američanku Madison Keysovou 7:5, 7:6. V následující rundě si vyšlápla na světovou dvanáctku, Rusku Dianu Šnajderovou, kterou skolila ve třech setech. V repríze předloňského finále Wimbledonu, v rámci berlínského čtvrtfinále, vyhrála za hodinu a 15 minut nad Tunisankou Uns Džábirovou 6:4, 6:1.
Po návratu po zranění ramena vyhrála rodačka ze Sokolova pátý ze šesti zápasů. V semifinále ale před ní stojí nejtěžší možná překážka, tou je světová jednička Sabalenková. Běloruska jako nejvýše nasazená dostala v prvním kole volno, ve druhém se téměř dvě hodiny trápila se 112. hráčkou žebříčku Rebekou Masarovou ze Švýcarska, ale nakonec postup urvala.
Pořádné drama pak poražená finalistka posledního Roland Garros prožila v duelu s Jelenou Rybakinovou z Kazachstánu, v tie-breaku třetí sady odvrátila Běloruska hned čtyři mečboly, aby si nakonec došla pro celkový triumf. Vondroušová se Sabalenkovou poměří síly poosmé v kariéře, zatím má negativní bilanci 3:4, na trávě se však potkaly pouze jednou, před šesti lety v Nizozemsku slavila vítězka loňského US Open.
Lehečka zvládl papírově nejsložitější zápas již v úvodním kole, v něm celkem hravě vyřadil za 77 minut nasazenou pětku Alexe De Minaura z Austrálie 6:4, 6:2. Následně si mladoboleslavský rodák poradil s rozjetým Kanaďanem Gabrielem Diallem, který předtím opanoval šest duelů v řadě, ve dvou setech. Ani ve čtvrtfinále se třiadvacetiletý Čech nezdržel moc dlouho, domácího Jacoba Fearnleyho porazil 7:5, 6:2.
Lehečkův soupeř a miláček tribun v Queensu Draper si od začátku turnaje užívá hlasité podpory domácích fanoušků. Světová šestka v úvodním kole smetla Američana Jensona Brooksbyho 6:3, 6:1. Následující kolo však přineslo napínavou podívanou, Draper vyřadil Australana Alexeie Popyrina až po tie-breaku ve třetí sadě. Ani čtvrtfinále nebylo pro londýnského rodáka snadnou písemkou, po téměř dvou a půl hodinách ale nakonec pokořil dalšího Američana Brandona Nakashimu ve třech setech.
Lehečka se zatím utkal s Draperem třikrát, vítězství slavil pouze jednou, bylo to loni ve finále v australském Adelaide.
