Now that the LSU and Coastal Carolina will face off in the 2025 Men’s College World Series (MCWS) final, fans are more than excited to know who the next champion will be.

However, there are more factors to consider than just the titlee. Although the NCAA does not give cash awards to the winner, the money effect of winning the MCWS is big and wide.

No cash, but wealth gain

Unlike pro sports, the NCAA does not pay the winning team of the College World Series. According to Sportskeeda the NCAA makes over $10 million each year from the baseball event through tickets, sponsorships, and TV rights. The thing is that this money goes to conferences and schools based on how they do in all NCAA sports, not just baseball.

So, while LSU or Coastal Carolina won’t get money right away for winning, the other benefits that come with a win are huge.

Where does the benefits come from?

Here’s what a national title can mean in real money:

  • More donations and support: A win often leads to more money given by alumni and supporters, especially at schools with passionate fans like LSU.
  • Merchandise sales: Champs’ gear sells fast, which brings in money for the sports department and helps the school’s name get more visible.
  • Ticket sales and attendance: More people come to the games next season, which means more money made at the gates.
  • Recruiting power: Doing well nationally helps pull in top players, which keeps the winning and money coming for years.
  • Coach bonuses: Coaches often get extra money if they do well under their contracts. A national title might mean big bonuses for the coaches and their teams.

NIL deals and player fame

While players do not get prize money from the NCAA, the new Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) rights have changed things. A good run to the championship can make a player much more appealing, leading to:

  • Local and national deals
  • Social media exposure
  • More visibility on them for the MLB Draft

For instance, LSU’s star pitcher Kade Anderson, who had a no-run game in Game 1, could see more interest in NIL and draft rank.

Coastal Carolina players are also getting noticed, especially after a 26-game winning streak before the finals.

The money at stake also depends on the schools’ sports budgets. LSU, with a budget of about $200 million, can take advantage of a win fast. Coastal Carolina, with a smaller budget of about $45 million, gains even more from the fame and trust that would come after a hypothetical second title in less than ten years.

The legacy factor

Beyond financial prices, a College World Series title secures a program’s history. For LSU, it would be their eighth title, backing their status as the top college baseball team ever. For Coastal Carolina, a second win since 2016 shows their first was no luck and they are here to stay.

No trophy money in Omaha, but the financial effects of winning the Men’s College World Series are clear. From NIL deals and support from donors to better recruiting and brand growth, the winner between LSU or Coastal Carolina, gets much more than just a chance to boast.
