Dánsko na šampionátu bez porážky ovládlo svou skupinu a v Prešově dlouho trápilo i favorita. V 18. minutě poslal Seveřany do vedení po chybě soupeřovy obrany střelou z první z hranice vápna Clement Bischoff. Těsně před pauzou srovnal po individuálním průniku do vápna Djaoui Cissé, ale čtyři minuty po přestávce po propadlém dlouhém autu vrátil Dánům náskok Oliver Sörensen.
V 70. minutě zhatil mladým Francouzům radost z vyrovnání zásah videorozhodčího, v závěrečné desetiminutovce ale už favorit přece jen získal zápas na svou stranu. Nejprve v 84. minutě srovnal ranou těsně zpoza vápna obránce Merlin a za další minutu dokonal velký obrat střelou na vzdálenější tyč Tel. Francouzi do semifinále Eura do 21 let postoupili po šesti letech a dál mohou snít o tom, že získají druhý titul po prvenství v roce 1988.
