Podotkl, že tento krok je nutný, aby byl jeho tým konkurenceschopnější. „Teď platím hráčům 30 až 40 tisíc eur (750 tisíc až 1 milion korun) měsíčně, ale s tím se hrát nedá. Rumunskému hráči, který chce jít do zahraničí, musíš dát 60 tisíc eur (1,5 milionu korun) měsíčně. Pak na odchod ani nepomyslí,“ připojil Becali.
„Tohle musím udělat, pokud se chci měřit s velkými kluby. Musím zvednout laťku. Pokud to neudělám, zůstanu na úrovni Evropské ligy,“ uzavřel Becali. Právě hlavní fázi Evropské ligy hrál jeho tým v minulé sezoně a došel do osmifinále, kde vypadl s Lyonem.
Teď chce celý klub o patro výš. V prvním předkole Ligy mistrů začne FCSB proti andorskému Interu Club d’Escaldes. V případě postupu se střetne s vítězem duelu mezi velšským celkem The New Saints a Škendijí Tetovo ze Severní Makedonie.
