Inter Miami were doing well in the Club World Cup after securing their place in the last 16 with a win over Porto. The team coached by Javier Mascherano went from strength to strength in the first phase and gradually showed that they could compete in a tournament full of great teams. However, the joy was short-lived. Lionel Messi’s team played the last 16 today and lost four-nil against PSG.
The match was played at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta, and the current Champions League winners showed no mercy, as they quickly opened the scoring in the 6th minute with Neves’ goal. He scored his double in the 39th minute and then in the 44th and 45th minutes came the other two goals that sealed a 4-0 win in the first half of the match.

In the second half, PSG dropped the intensity and began to move the ball more. Messi, for his part, tried to encourage his teammates and at least try for a consolation goal. There were a couple of plays by the Argentine and others by Luis Suarez that could have meant a goal, but it was not to be and Messi had to say goodbye to the Club World Cup with a painful defeat.
A special match for Messi
While Messi shines in his own light, the match also stole the spotlight for one particular reason, as it should be remembered that the Argentine played two years at PSG, where he does not have very good memories and French fans do not remember him with joy.
Messi’s time at PSG left almost nothing positive for the French team, as he was signed with the idea of being able to lift the Champions League for the first time, but that did not happen. In addition, Messi confessed that he never felt comfortable at the club and decided to leave after fulfilling his contract.
Luis Enrique and PSG want to make history
This season has been a historic one for PSG, as the French team won the Champions League for the first time after defeating Inter and now, in the Club World Cup, they want to become the first winner in the history of the tournament.
Under Luis Enrique, PSG want to continue winning titles and that is why they have taken this Club World Cup very seriously. The French team will wait for their opponent between Flamengo and Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
