Last-Place Washington Nationals Fire GM Mike Rizzo and Manager Dave Martinez

<!--> Manager Dave Martinez and general manager Mike Rizzo were fired by the Washington Nationals on Sunday in moves that were surprising for their timing, even if the club is more than halfway through its sixth consecutive losing season since winning the 2019 World Series. The team announced the changes just hours after Washington's 6-4 loss at home completed a sweep by the Boston Red Sox. The Nationals are 37-53 and last in the NL East; the only National League club with a worse record is the Colorado Rockies. But the amateur draft is just a week away, and Washington has the No. 1 overall pick.Senior VP and assistant GM Mike DeBartolo is taking over for Rizzo on an interim basis. What Are the 10 Longest Home Runs in the Statcast Era?

<!--> The 2025 MLB Home Run Derby is set to take place at Truist Park in Atlanta next Monday. If it's anything like the others, we'll see a lot of long shots traveling well into the bleachers — and possibly out of the ballpark. While hitting deep home runs in a Home Run Derby is certainly impressive, it isn't the same as hitting a long ball in a live game. There have been 12 occasions where a player has hit a home run at least 495 feet (since the start of the Statcast era in 2015).FOX Sports Research compiled the list of those moments, ranking the 10 longest home runs of the Statcast era. Let's get to it!10 longest home runs in Statcast era Aaron Judge was all smiles after his 495-foot homer in 2017. MLB All-Star All-Snubs team: Trea Turner, Rafael Devers, Juan Soto among notable misses

Guys, this keeps happening! Every year, like clockwork, Major League Baseball picks two All-Star Teams. And every year, really good players get left out. It’s almost as if the system itself is not perfectly designed to get the absolute best players onto the rosters! So, here we are again, savoring Sunday’s All-Star selections by celebrating the players who didn’t make it. Granted, some of these snubs will be replacements — our All-Snubs team last year had 15 players, and three were eventually chosen — but among the snubs who remained left out of last year’s All-Star Game were an eventual Rookie of the Year (Luis Gil) and an eventual MVP runner-up (Francisco Lindor). Twins takeaways: With trade deadline looming, this team is in a tough spot

MINNEAPOLIS — The Twins once again got in their own way on Sunday afternoon, and it prevented them from the completion of a much-needed sweep.Costly defensive miscues by Twins relief pitchers led to extended innings, including a late three-spot as the Tampa Bay Rays won 7-5 in 10 innings at Target Field. Griffin Jax and Justin Topa misplayed comebackers and combined to allow five runs for the Twins, who fell to 43-47. The team is off Monday before opening a three-game series at home against the first-place Chicago Cubs.AdvertisementWhereas earlier in the season the Twins could focus on the good developments from winning a three-game series against the Rays, this time they’re in a difficult spot. The margin for error is razor thin. And the Twins are simply running out of time to correct their course. Even so, the Twins say […]

José Ramírez Deserves Better: Guardians Slide From ALCS to 10-Game Skid

The Cleveland Guardians were three wins away from the World Series last year. Less than nine months later, they’ve now dropped 10 straight games and are inching toward a full-blown rebuild. On Sunday afternoon, they came within one strike of snapping a nine-game losing streak — a stretch in which their offense has ranked dead last in nearly every statistical category. But after a rare mistake by closer Emmanuel Clase, the Detroit Tigers tied the game in the ninth. Cleveland unraveled in extra innings and lost, 7–2. Losing streaks are rarely pretty. But this one? This has been a death march up a mountain without an oxygen tank. It started unraveling in late June in a series against the Toronto Blue Jays. That’s when Kevin Gausman beaned Cleveland’s All-Star third baseman José Ramírez. At the time, the Guardians were floating […]
