Die Champions League geht wieder los. Am Dienstag (8. Juli bei SPORT BILD im Live-Ticker) startet die Königsklasse in ihre erste Qualifikationsrunde. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass eines der Teams die Ligaphase erreicht, ist nicht sehr groß. Dennoch haben die Exoten einige Geschichten zu erzählen. SPORT BILD erzählt die verrücktesten Geschichten.
FC Shelbourne – Die Klub-Ikone mit eigenem Theaterstück
Ollie Byrne (†63) war jahrelang Klubchef des irischen Klubs FC Shelbourne. Er war eine schillernde Figur, die sein ganzes Leben dem Verein widmete. Jeden Penny an Einnahmen steckte er in den Klub, mit dem großen Ziel, die Champions League zu erreichen.
Er selbst verbrachte einige Zeit im Knast, weil er Zigaretten geschmuggelt haben soll. Seine Schwester soll den späteren König von Spanien gedatet haben, als dieser auf einer Irland-Reise sein Englisch verbessern wollte. Ex-Shelbourne-Spieler Gary Brown schrieb ein Theaterstück mit dem Titel „Ollie… One Love, One Life“, das im Mai erstmals aufgeführt wurde.
Lincoln Red Imps – Der Kobold-Klub
Der Klub ist nach dem Lincoln Imp (zu deutsch Kobold von Lincoln) benannt, einem Neidkopf an der Kathedrale von Lincoln. Der Klub wurde 1976 gegründet. Das Team aus Gibraltar bestand zunächst nur aus Nachwuchsspielern zweier Klubs und der Jugend eines Polizei-Teams. Erst als die Mannschaft alt genug war, trat man im Erwachsenenbereich auf und meldete sich in der 2. Liga. Nur drei Jahre später schaffte die Truppe den Aufstieg in die 1. Liga.
[–>Levadia Tallinn – Der Klub-Boss mit den 3 Erstliga-Teams
1998 übernahm der Ukrainer Viktor Levada (heute 66) den Klub aus Estland nach einer Fusion. Das neue Team Levadia Maardu trat in der 1. Liga an, die zweite Mannschaft spielte unter dem Namen FC Maardu in der 2. Liga. 2001 stieg die 2. Mannschaft auf und erhielt in der 1. Liga den Namen Levadia Tallinn.
Kurios: 2002 stiegt dann auch noch Levadia Pärnu auf, der 3. Klub im Kosmos von Viktor Levada. Im selben Jahr standen sich Levadia Tallinn und Levadia Maardu im Pokalfinale gegenüber.
Vor der Saison 2004 gab Levadia Tallinn seine Lizenz zurück und Levadia Maardu wurde in Levadia Tallinn umbenannt, blieb unter diesem Namen in der ersten Liga.

KF Shkendija – der verbotene Klub
1979 wurde der Klub von Albanern gegründet. Intention war es, den Albanern in Jugoslawien einen Zusammenschluss zu bieten. Der Klub wurde daraufhin verboten, da man fürchtete, er würde nationalistischte Stimmung unter den Albanern in Jugoslawien fördern. Erst nach der Unabhängigkeit Mazedoniens (heute Nordmazedonien) 1991 wurde der Verein in den Fußball des Landes integriert.
Besart Ibraimi (38), heutiger Kapitän vom KF Shkendija, hat eine Bundesliga-Vergangenheit. Von Januar 2010 bis 2011 stand er bei Schalke unter Vertrag, machte damals 2 Bundesliga-Spiele

Ludogorets Rasgrad – Innenverteidiger wird zum Torwart-Helden
2014 ging es im Playoff-Rückspiel zwischen dem bulgarischen Klub aus Rasgrad und Steaua Bukarest (Rumänien) um die Champions League. In der 118. Minute wurde Torwart Vladislav Stoyanov (damals 28) mit Gelb-Rot vom Platz gestellt. Trainer Georgi Dermendzhiev (damals 59) hatte keine Wechsel-Optionen mehr. Innenverteidiger Cosmin Moti (damals 29) musste ins Tor – im Elfmeterschießen.

Moti hält zwei Elfer, verwandelt selbst einen und wird so zum Helden des Klubs. Rasgrad schaffte es so im 3. Anlauf erstmals in die Gruppenphase der Champions League. Heute ist Moti Technischer Direktor des Klubs.
Kairat Almaty – Talent hat für 2026 schon bei Chelsea unterschrieben
Dastan Satpaev (16) feierte im Mai 2024 sein Profidebüt im Alter von 15 Jahren und 9 Monaten. Im Februar 2025 verkündete der kasachische Klub, dass der FC Chelsea Satpaev verpflichtet hat. Dem Vernehmen nach soll die Basisablöse bei 2,4 Millionen Euro liegen, durch Boni kann sie auf 4 Millionen anwachsen. Allerdings: Satpaev wird erst im August 2026 18 Jahre alt und wird erst mit Erreichen der Volljährigkeit zu den Blues wechseln. Bis dahin läuft er noch für Kairat Almaty auf.

HSK Zrinjski Mostar – Bosnien-Klub mit kroatischer Vergangenheit
Der amtierende bosnische Meister HSK Zrinjski Mostar hat eine bewegte Vergangenheit. 1905 wurde der Klub als Schülersportklub durch Jugendliche und ihren Gymnasiallehrer gegründet. Die Fans des Klubs sind heute noch überwiegend kroatisch. Die Fans des Stadtrivalen FK Velez Mostar sind überwiegen bosnisch. Bei Derbys kommt es immer wieder zu Ausschreitungen.
Der historische Hintergrund: Die Stadt Mostar gehörte zunächst zur österreich-ungarischen Verwaltung, nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg zu Jugoslawien. Im zweiten Weltkrieg wurde Mostar an den unabhängigen Staat Kroatien angegliedert. Nach dem Krieg gehörte die Stadt dann zur jugoslawischen Teilrepublik Bosnien- und Herzegowina.

Am 30. Dezember 2016 schreib der walisische Klub Fußball-Geschichte und stellte einen neuen Weltrekord auf – 27 Pflichtspielsiege in Folge. Den Rekord hat bis dahin seit 1972 Ajax Amsterdam gehalten. Den Rekord hatte der Klub aber nur bis 2024 inne. Dann knackte Al-Hilal (Saudi-Arabien) mit 28 Spielen den Rekord.
