El Valencia se pone con 34 puntos –los mismos que Girona, que había perdido ante el Alavés- y pone fin a una ‘maldición’ en el Bernabéu. Hacía 17 años que el Valencia no ganaba en casa del Real Madrid. Su último triunfo data del 23-3-2008 con un sorprendente partido del equipo que entonces dirigía Ronald Koeman y que, aunque ganó la Copa, acabó peleando por eludir el descenso en las últimas jornadas de Liga.
Si había un gol de Arizmendi, que anotó el tanto de la victoria en aquella ocasión, ahora habrá un gol de Hugo Duro, que entró en la segunda parte, tras superar una lesión muscular. El delantero madrileño -que también jugó en el equipo blanco- aprovechó un gran centro de Rafa Mir desde la derecha para rematar de cabeza de manera inapelable ante Fran González.
Casi un año sin ganar fuera de casa
El Valencia no ganaba fuera de casa desde el 15 de abril de 2024. De hecho Hugo Duro evitó que el equipo cumpliera un año sin ganar a domicilio. Hubo, además, otro protagonista en el encuentro. Mouctar Diakhaby, que lució el brazelete de capitán, adelantó a su equipo con otro gran gol de cabeza a la salida de un córner. Después el VAR le alivió del infortunio del autogol. La jugada estaba invalidada por un fuera de juego de Mbappé. Fue el puntal de una defensa con tres centrales con la que Corberán trabajó durante la semana y que valió -con los paradones del portero- a lograr un triunfo clave.
