Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira says it is “natural” for leading scorer Matheus Cunha to be looking at a possible future away from the club to challenge for major trophies.
The 25-year-old spoke to the Guardian about his desire to “take the next step” despite signing a new Wolves contract in January.

Pereira was asked about Cunha’s comments during his press conference to preview Tuesday’s game against West Ham United, in which Cunha will serve the third game of a four-match suspension following his red card in the FA Cup game at Bournemouth.
Pereira said: “He knows his potential, he is a top player. It’s normal he has the ambition to fight for titles, it’s natural.
“It happens with other players. But the most important thing is to be committed and help the team to achieve our targets. At the end of the season we will see.”
Cunha posted on his Instagram account today criticising the coverage of the interview with the comments about his future attracting the most attention. His new contract contains a buy-out clause that means he could leave this summer.
Pereira refused to be drawn on Cunha’s future beyond the end of the season but said the comments will not affect his team selection once the Brazil international is available again.
“The focus is the next game,” said Pereira. “The focus is the team and Matheus makes part of the team, not for this game but my focus is my team. In the summer we will see what happens. It’s normal for a player with his potential to have ambition.
“He is committed. This is the present. The future, I don’t know. If training gives me the confidence to play with Cunha I will pay with him because he has the quality to help us.”
