El Girona se dio una pequeña alegría, o mejor dicho, el filial del conjunto blanquirrojo dignificó al club representándolo en las semifinales de la Copa Catalunya. Sin ningún jugador del primer equipo, ni Míchel Sánchez, los jóvenes jugadores dirigidos como en 3a división RFEF por Quique Álvarez remontaron un 2-0 inicial del Andorra, campeón de la competición en las dos últimas ediciones, para hacer el 2-3 definitivo ya en el descuento gracias a Arango, hijo del exjugador profesional del Mallorca o el Borussia Mönchengladbach, entre otros.
El segundo equipo del Girona concedió mucho en defensa y los del Principado, que juegan la competición ya que están inscritos en la Federación Catalana, no lo han desaprovechado. En su primera ocasión, Lautaro ha cedido el gol a Álvaro Peña, que ha cruzado ante Vlad (9’). Los locales, de 1a división RFEF, tuvieron las mejores ocasiones y mostraron mayor calidad en una primera parte que pudo acabar en goleada pero que solo termino 2-0, cuando Lautaro recortó ante Antal para fusilar al portero (32’) -Luismi, Peña i Oriol Busquets también pudieron marcar. Los blanqurirrojos mejoraron en el tramo final del primer acto y avisaron con un par de ocasiones que le dieron el premio del gol para recortar distancias en el marcador. Dawda aprovechó un pase largo a la espalda de la defensa para superar a Oier (44’).
En la segunda, los de Quique Álvarez empezaron a carburar todavía mejor, y es que, el Andorra también introdujo a jóvenes de su filial de 1a catalana, el Gimnàstic Manresa, y los gerundenses crecieron. Oriol Comas pudo hacer el empate a la salida de un córner (51’) y poco después Torras, en propia portería estableció el 2-2 en el marcador que abría el encuentro. El dominio del Girona era evidente pero cuando los presentes en el Estadio Nacional de Andorra esperaban los penaltis, Arango, muy oportuno, no perdonó ante Oier para hacer el 2-3 definitivo y clasificar para la final a los gerundenses.
Ahora el problema, como lo ha tenido este equipo, será encontrar una fecha en el calendario para enfrentarse al Espanyol, que en la otra semifinal superó al Barça, también ambos sin los jugadores del primer equipo, por 5-0.
