Die Beine von Lennard Kämna (28) fühlen sich schwer an. Die sieben Etappen der Katalonien-Rundfahrt haben Spuren hinterlassen. Im Endklassement belegte der im norddeutschen Fischerhude aufgewachsene Radprofi Platz 64.
In 100 Metern Höhe!: Sensations-Salto auf Elphi-Dach
Unter normalen Umständen wäre Deutschlands bester Radprofi, der Etappen bei den drei großen Rundfahrten Tour de France, Giro und Vuelta gewann, enttäuscht über sein Abschneiden. Doch nun ist er überglücklich. „Es fühlt sich großartig an, wieder Radrennen zu fahren“, sagt er. „Nach meiner langen Pause war Katalonien ein amtlicher Einstieg. Ich merke, dass ich so langsam wieder reinkomme. Noch fehlt mir die Rennhärte. Nach etwa vier Stunden gehen mir die Kräfte aus.“
Fast ein Jahr musste Kämna pausieren. Am 3. April 2024 wurde er beim Training auf Teneriffa von einem entgegenkommenden Auto angefahren – Brüche des Brustkorbs und der Rippen sowie eine schwere Lungenprellung waren die Folge. Kämna schwebte in Lebensgefahr, erst recht, weil er oben auf dem Berg stundenlang auf den Rettungswagen warten musste. Erst danach kam er auf die Intensivstation, wo er drei Tage blieb. Insgesamt war er nach der OP vier Wochen im Krankenhaus auf der Kanareninsel. Erinnerungen an den Crash hat Kämna keine. Nur so viel: „Die Lage war ernst.“
[–>Es folgte eine lange Reha in Hamburg und Thalgau (Österreich). 63 Tage nach dem Unfall saß Kämna das erste Mal wieder auf dem Rad und begann mit dem Aufbautraining.
Nun ist es ein echter Neuanfang. Zumal Kämna auch das Team gewechselt hat, von Red-Bull-Bora-hansgrohe zu Lidl-Trek. Dort spürte er ein größeres Vertrauen als bei seinem alten Team. Sein Vertrag bei der amerikanischen Equipe läuft bis 2027. „Ich möchte möglichst schnell wieder der Alte werden und Etappen gewinnen“, sagt Kämna. „Klar ist aber auch: Vor mir liegt ein schwerer Weg.“
Seine nächsten Rennen fährt er bei der Tour of the Alps (21. bis 25. April) und der Tour de Romandie (29. April bis 4. Mai). „Mein großes Ziel ist die Tour de France“, sagt Kämna. „Dort möchte ich dabei sein. Das ist meine Motivation.“ Tour-Start ist am 5. Juli in Lille.
Auf seinem Weg zurück nahm Kämna psychologische Hilfe in Anspruch. Denn der lebensgefährliche Unfall hat Spuren hinterlassen. „Im Training achte ich jetzt viel mehr auf den Straßenverkehr und schaue den Autofahrern in die Augen, um zu erkennen, ob sie mich wirklich sehen“, sagt Kämna. Auch in den Rennen muss er sich wieder an die brenzligen Situationen gewöhnen. „Es dauert, bis man wieder mit der nötigen Selbstverständlichkeit und dem richtigen Selbstbewusstsein in die Positionskämpfe geht“, sagt er.
Der 1,81 Meter große und 65 Kilo schwere Kämna ist bekannt für seine aggressive Fahrweise. In Katalonien suchte er schon wieder sein Glück in einer Ausreißergruppe, bevor er dann doch zurückfiel. „Es war schön zu sehen, dass die alten Instinkte noch da sind.“
