Casagrande acredita que o Corinthians tem um elenco que ainda precisa de reforços e que pode sofrer ao longo da temporada, mediante a possíveis lesões ou desfalques por outros motivos. A avaliação foi feita pelo comentarista na coluna do UOL, após a derrota da equipe para o Huracán na Sul-Americana.
Na concepção do ex-atacante, o resultado de 2 a 1 diante da organizada equipe argentina, mostra que o Corinthians enfrenta dificuldades quando jogadores importantes estão inaptos. No confronto de estreia no torneio copeiro, o alvinegro não teve Hugo Souza e Rodrigo Garro, que são ‘pilares’ do time.
“Essa partida deixou muito claro que o elenco do Corinthians não é forte, porque quando o time titular fica desfalcado por dois jogadores, por exemplo, não encontra alternativas do mesmo nível e também quando precisa alterar durante a partida.
“Quando faltam jogadores em setores estratégicos, o Corinthians cai demais. O Hugo Souza já conquistou a torcida, tem total confiança, é um dos líderes, e essa defesa insegura fica ainda mais vulnerável sem o Hugo atrás dela. O Rodrigo Garro é o cérebro do time, o homem da criação”, complementou.

Além de destacar a limitação no plantel alvinegro, enfatizando sobre a necessidade de reforços pontuais, Casagrande questionou o desempenho do sistema defensivo do Corinthians. Na avaliação dele, há uma fragilidade muito expressiva na equipe, que costuma falhar bastante, principalmente contra oponentes mais incisivos.
Com os dois tentos anotados pelo Huracán em Itaquera, o time chegou aos 23 tentos sofridos na temporada, em 22 jogos cumpridos. Deste quantitativo, Matheus Donelli foi vazado oito vezes, em seis partidas.
