While Cooper Flagg dominates headlines as the top basketball prospect in the class of 2024, there’s one name that’s quietly been grinding behind the scenes: Ace Flagg, Cooper’s lesser-known twin brother. That’s right-Cooper has a twin, and most people don’t even realize it.
But don’t expect a carbon copy. The Flaggs are not identical, and while Cooper stands taller, Ace isn’t far behind at 6’7″. So why haven’t you heard of him? The answer is part timing, part spotlight.
Cooper reclassified and headed to college a year early, to play with the Duke Bluedevils while Ace is still wrapping up high school. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been making moves of his own.
Ace and Cooper started their school careers at the same time
Ace’s basketball journey began alongside Cooper at Nokomis Regional High School in Newport, Maine, where the duo led their team to a state championship in 2022. From there, Ace transferred to Montverde Academy-a national powerhouse.
While his early stats were modest, he contributed to multiple championship teams, including the Chipotle Nationals and a Sunshine Independent Athletic Association title. His minutes and impact grew steadily with each season.
Ace got commited to Maine
Now finishing his high school career at Greensboro Day School in North Carolina, Ace has already made his next big move: he’s committed to play for the University of Maine in 2025-26, following in the footsteps of his mother, Kelly Flagg, a Hall of Famer at the school. “It’s definitely an honor to be able to represent this state,” Ace said. “There’s no better place, I think.”
Ace’s underdog path is one of persistence, growth, and a deep-rooted love for his home state. And with both brothers sharing the same development coach, Matt McKenzie, it may only be a matter of time before Ace Flagg becomes a household name too.
