Cada remate, cada choque, cada salto dividido puede dejar una huella silenciosa en el cerebro. Durante décadas, el fútbol vivió ajeno a esa realidad. Pero algo está cambiando. Lo que antes era invisible, hoy comienza a salir a la luz. Y en esa revolución silenciosa aparece Proteckthor, una innovadora cinta protectora que ya está cambiando la forma de entender el juego.

“Con esta cinta uno puede jugar más tranquilo. No se piensa en los golpes”, confiesa en declaraciones a MARCA Álvaro Vidal Gómez-Acebo, uno de los socios de la empresa que ha desarrollado esta tecnología. “No molesta, no se mueve, y te da una sensación de seguridad brutal”, resume mientras reconoce que hay “clubes de primera preguntando por la cinta”.

La Proteckthor, diseñada en colaboración con la Universidad de Zaragoza y el Impact Laboratory, contando también con el apoyo del centro tecnológico CETEM, ha demostrado reducir hasta un 93% los impactos en la cabeza. No es ciencia ficción: se trata de algo real. Inspirada en los estudios que vinculan los golpes repetitivos con enfermedades neurodegenerativas como el Alzheimer, el Parkinson o la ELA, su objetivo es claro: proteger sin afectar el rendimiento.
Un daño menor para los jugadores
“En primer lugar logramos reducir el impacto en el cerebro a la hora de rematar, por otro, no pierde potencia a la hora de salir el balón. Con este producto, que es una cinta muy poco invasiva similar a la que han usado jugadores como Ramos o Modric para sujetar el pelo, hemos logrado reducir un 93% el daño que produce en el cerebro”, expone Vidal Gómez-Acebo, quien da un dato llamativo.
“Un remate de córner es similar a una caída en moto a 60 km/h, algo escalofriante. Ya hemos visto durante mucho tiempo las secuelas que deja en la cabeza. Hemos visto lesiones de cracks como Varane que reconoció que había sufrido un deterioro en las funciones del deporte por el impacto repetitivo del balón en la cabeza”, dice un cuya empresa es joven, sólo lleva un año en el mercado quien reconoce que ya hay clubes como el “Málaga, Cádiz o Dépor con los que ya estamos trabajando”. El Atletico de Madrid, por su parte, ha sido el primero en dar el paso en el profesionalismo ya que se ha visto en el primer equipo femenino.

“Está pensada para los que valoran su salud tanto como su pasión por el fútbol”, explicaba Álvaro en su visita al Mundo MARCA. Y ya no se trata solo de teoría. Este producto se está utilizando en ligas profesionales, como la femenina anteriormente mendionada, y en torneos de base como la MadCup, uno de los más prestigiosos del fútbol formativo. También ha llegado al fútbol femenino de élite, con jugadoras como Paula Larqué, portera del Atleti, usándola de forma habitual.

Pero su expansión no está exenta de restricciones. “La FIFA exige que la cinta sea negra y esté en consonancia con el aspecto profesional del equipamiento del jugador. Nada más”, detalla Vidal. Aun así, los jugadores la adaptan con orgullo, sabiendo que están protegiendo algo más que su cabeza: están cuidando su futuro.

Mirando al futuro
En los últimos años, la conversación sobre los daños cerebrales en el fútbol ha ganado peso. El exinternacional inglés Alan Shearer fue uno de los primeros en alzar la voz. El caso más sonado fue el de Jeff Astle, cuya muerte fue atribuida al daño cerebral por remates constantes.

Más recientemente, Raphael Varane sorprendió al anunciar su retirada del fútbol internacional, aludiendo entre otras razones al temor por los efectos acumulados de los golpes de cabeza. En Inglaterra, ya se prohíbe rematar en entrenamientos en categorías formativas. Y todo apunta a que el fútbol del futuro pasará por aquí.

“Esto no es una moda”, insiste Vidal Gómez-Acebo. “Es salud. Y muchos acabarán usándola, como hoy se usan espinilleras o vendas. El fútbol evoluciona, y con él la protección del jugador”. La cinta, pequeña y discreta, puede acabar teniendo un impacto gigante. La salud también juega.
