En el momento de imitar al checo ni los mejores son infalibles. Messi desafió a su propio estilo en los cuartos de final de la última Copa América ante Ecuador. El argentino engañó al portero, Domínguez, pero la bola fue hasta el larguero. “Estaba convencido de lanzarlo así. Me dio bronca el fallo”, expresó el ’10’, que ha marcado más de un penalti de ese tipo.

Su entrenador, Víctor Muñoz, fue claro: “Nadie entiende lo que ha hecho. No estoy dentro de él para saber porqué tomó esa decisión”. Para Juande Ramos, entrenador madridista en ese momento, tirar así el penalti fue “una falta de respeto”.

El sinónimo de lanzador fiable se puede adjudicar a Pirlo, aunque el italiano conoció la decepción en un trofeo Gamper cuando su tiro fue como una pompa de jabón hasta las manos de Pinto.

A Totti, uno de los monumentos preferidos de Roma, le encantaba lanzar penaltis así. Sin embargo, un portero del Lecce, Sicignano, le ridiculizó en una ocasión. No fue suficiente para que el ’10’ de Italia continuara exprimiendo esa disciplina, aunque fuera en situaciones límite como una fase final de Eurocopa.

Cuatro años después, en el Mundial de Sudáfrica, aguardaba un Uruguay-Ghana en cuartos de final que se fue a la tanda de penaltis. El partido fue estresante hasta pisar el punto de penalti. El quinto lanzamiento uruguayo fue para el ‘Loco’ Abreu, quien no dudó en hacer un guiño a los cardiólogos.

El Loco, que no tenía el apodo por una tómbola, sostenía haber “analizado al arquero. Vi que se lanzaba antes de que el rematador llegara a la pelota y, tomando en cuenta que era un penal que significaba un pase a semifinales, intuí que era difícil que se fuera a quedar parado”

El arrojo de Sergio Ramos

Tras lanzar un penalti ante el Bayern Munich cerca de los afluentes del Tajo, a Sergio Ramos le llamó la redención en la Eurocopa de 2012, cuando se llegó a la ruleta rusa ante Portugal. El camero encaró el balón y decidió ejecutar su lanzamiento ante Rui Patricio como si tuviera mostacho.

Otro aliado de la sangre fría es Benzema. El tamaño del compromiso no le restó arrojó en el Etihad Stadium al visitar al Manchester City en la ida de semifinales de Champions de 2022. Con 4-2 tocaba un penalti ante Ederson. Benzema heló el estadio al exhibir un Panenka.

“Coloqué el balón en el suelo y supe que lo iba a tirar así. No tenía otra cosa en la cabeza, sólo lanzarlo de ese modo. Llevaba mucho tiempo practicando y solo esperaba el momento adecuado”, aseguró Benzema tras un acierto que todavía se recuerda. 

‘La araña’ ya lo sabía

Imitar a Panenka está abierto a todos los públicos. En esta temporada, Fidel, un especialista, erró en su lanzamiento con el Albacete en Burgos. Cantero le estaba esperando bajo palos. El entrenador del Alba, Alberto González, mostró su malestar: “No es una decisión acertada, pero el que ejecuta, decide, y unas veces acierta y otras se equivoca”.
