Barcelona y Real Madrid se miden este domingo (18.30 horas) en el Palau con un ojo puesto en el frente europeo. La próxima semana afrontan sendas finales en la lucha por los disputadísimos playoffs de la Euroliga. Con el play-in asegurado, los azulgranas recibirán a la Virtus de Bolonia y los blancos visitarán al Partizan. Ninguno de sus rivales tiene en juego más que el orgullo de despedirse de buena manera, pero los dos grandes españoles no pueden fallar si quieren estar entre los seis primeros… y con lo ajustada que está la clasificación puede que ni ganando lo consigan.

Así que este Clásico podría considerarse casi una distracción antes de luchar por un objetivo mayor. El Madrid, que lleva 13 victorias consecutivas en la Liga Endesa, tratará de apuntalar el liderato ante el empuje de La Laguna Tenerife, segundo, que no frena. El Barça, que marcha quinto, no puede permitirse perder más distancia si quiere tener el factor cancha al menos en la primera ronda de playoffs.

“Contra el Barcelona siempre es un partido diferente”, asegura Chus Mateo. Aunque los últimos Clásicos siempre han caído del mismo lado, el de su equipo. El Madrid ha ganado los últimos siete que han disputado: los tres de las semifinales de la Liga Endesa de la temporada pasada y los cuatro enfrentamientos que ha habido en la presente.

La solidez madridista

Los blancos pasan probablemente por su mejor momento de la temporada, habiendo alcanzado un buen nivel de regularidad y con una buena aportación de jugadores que antes ofrecían dudas, como Usman Garuba, Serge Ibaka y Andrés Feliz.

“Estamos jugando con solidez. Desde que jugamos la Copa del Rey solo hemos perdido con el Panathinaikos en su cancha”, recuerda Mateo, que no se recrea en lo conseguido sino en lo que viene: “No me paro a pensar que llevamos 13 victorias seguidas en Liga. Tienes que darle el valor que merece, que es mucho porque combinar las dos competiciones y estar a un nivel alto no es fácil, pero prefiero seguir sumando e ir paso a paso, que es más práctico que pensar en lo que llevas”.

Al Barcelona, con todo lo que le ha pasado esta campaña, no se le puede pedir mucho más. Perdió a Nico Laprovittola a mediados de octubre, Juan Núñez pasó por el quirófano en marzo, también se quedó recientemente sin Chimezie Metu, Jan Vesely no juega desde enero y ahora se le ha fugado el canterano Dame Sarr. Pese a todo, Peñarroya ve al equipo “unido”, aunque al mismo tiempo cree que está “al límite tanto físico como mental”. Llega otro Clásico, este antes de dos finales.
