El vitoriano Martín Fiz, campeón del mundo de maratón en Gotemburgo (Suecia) en 1995, se proclamó este domingo campeón del medio maratón de Berlín en su categoría M60 -atletas de más de 60 años- y sumó su quinto triunfo en las ‘SuperHalfs’, el circuito internacional compuesto por seis prestigiosas carreras que reúnen este año a 162.500 corredores.
Después de triunfar en 2023 en los medios maratones de Lisboa (Portugal), Copenhague (Dinamarca) y Cardiff (Gales) y alzarse con la victoria en 2024 en Praga (República Checa) en la categoría 60-64 años, Fiz se vio obligado a renunciar a la carrera de Valencia el pasado año debido a una lesión que le impidió correr durante cuatro meses.

El vitoriano superó recientemente un edema óseo en el astrágalo de su pie derecho y también unos problemas físicos que hasta hace apenas veinte días le impedían trotar sin dolor por debajo de cuatro minutos y treinta segundos por kilómetro.
En Berlín, Martín Fiz, de 62 años, completó el recorrido en un tiempo de 1h15:45 con “buenas sensaciones”, en una mañana muy fría -cinco grados en la línea de salida- y con viento.
El vitoriano ha doblegado con solvencia a sus rivales más complicados, el kazajo Sergey Apenko y el italiano Marco Pranovi, segundo y tercero de su categoría en la preciosa línea de meta, ubicada cerca de la famosa Puerta de Brandeburgo.

“Estoy muy contento porque he podido cumplir el objetivo. He sido un poco reservón porque he estado cinco meses sin poder entrenar bien pero he tenido buenas sensaciones. “Llevo más de 300.000 km en las piernas y hay que saber dosificar. Estoy contento porque ganar los six Majors y cinco superhalfs es para estarlo y valorarlo. Ahora me queda Valencia, espero con un cielo azul y para celebrarlo vestir de azul”, añadió en línea de meta.
El atleta vitoriano tiene previsto concluir su reto de los SuperHalfs el próximo 26 de octubre en el medio maratón de Valencia.
El 22 de abril de 2018, Fiz culminó en Londres su reto de ganar los six Majors dentro de su categoría al imponerse en la de mayores de 55 años. Ese día, el fondista vasco se convirtió en el primer atleta del mundo con victorias en los seis grandes, después de haber ganado en su categoría los maratones de Nueva York (en 2015), Tokio, Boston y Berlín (2016) y Chicago (2017).
