David Benavidez is one of the sport’s leading emerging figures, but he has had complications in getting his first title fight.
He first made his way in the 168-pound division, dominated by Canelo Alvarez, where he became the mandatory challenger of the World Boxing Council with victories over Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade, but the fight against the Mexican never came.

The Mexican Monster decided to move up to 175 pounds, where the monarch was Artur Beterbiev and once again Benavidez was the mandatory challenger, but the Russian opted for the rematch against Dmitry Bivol.
In that second clash between Russians, Bivol took revenge and once again Red Flag was on the WBC list, but everything points to the trilogy of Beterbiev and Bivol because Sheikh Turki Al-Sheikh, who is the one who pays these boxers and also Saul Alvarez, is not interested in the Bivol vs Benavidez duel.
So neither in the Super Middleweight nor in the Light Heavyweight division is the door open to the Mexican Monster and he considers that it is because of the money.
“Organizations don’t take Canelo’s belts away because the percentage of money they get from him is huge,” Benavidez said. “That 3% of Canelo’s $40 million is a lot of money.”
Benavidez regrets not making more money in boxing
David Benavidez (30-0) is considered “the most dangerous fighter in the world”, but the one who moves the least money.
“I feel like my name is not mentioned because I’m the most dangerous fighter in the world, but the least paid. All these fighters, I think, see it all as a business,” he said in an interview with Mystic Zach.
