Ohne den Trainer fehlt ihnen der Durchblick …

Bayerns Basketballer verlieren das Spitzenspiel in der Easycredit Basketball-Bundesliga bei Verfolger Ratiopharm Ulm mit 94:109, kassieren ihre höchste Saison-Niederlage.

Das Rennen um Platz eins damit wieder komplett offen. Ulm gewinnt den direkten Vergleich (nach 60:72 im Hinspiel) zieht nach Siegen mit den Bayern gleich (beide nun bei 19), hat aber ein Spiel mehr absolviert.

Selten hat eine Begegnung die Bezeichnung Topspiel mehr verdient: Zweiter gegen Erster, beste Heimmannschaft gegen beste Auswärtsmannschaft, der Meister von 2023 gegen den von 2024. Und die Partie hält alles, was sie verspricht!

Schlechte Nachrichten für den amtierenden Doublesieger aber schon vor dem Tip-off: Weltmeister-Coach Gordon Herbert (65) fehlt wegen einer Augeninfektion. Für ihn steht sein Co-Trainer TJ Parker (40) an der Seitenlinie. Dazu fehlen mit Lucic, Booker und Napier drei Säulen im Team. Rotation ist angesagt in diesen intensiven Wochen.

Schon in 48 Stunden wartet der nächste Kracher: Da empfangen die Münchner den Tabellenzweiten Fenerbahçe Istanbul zum letzten Hauptrundenspiel in der Euroleague. Mit einem Sieg haben sie den direkten Playoff-Einzug sicher.

Bayern-Nationalspieler Niels Giffey gibt vor dem Tipp-off in Ulm zu: „Ich würde lügen, wenn ich sagen würde, wir sind nicht schon mit einem halben Auge auf dem Fenerbahce-Spiel. Das ist einfach so.“

Dyn-Experte Patrick Femerling mahnt: „Mit eineinhalb Augen geht es heute nicht.“ Er sollte Recht behalten.

Die Ulmer direkt mit Topstart (5:0). Bei 18:12-Führung der Hausherren nimmt Bayern die erste Auszeit, Parker redet energisch auf seine Spieler ein, fordert deutlich mehr Körpereinsatz in der Defensivarbeit.

Die warmen Worte laufen erstmal ins Leere, der Rückstand wächst auf Minus 12 nach dem ersten Viertel an. Die 6.000 Fans in der ausverkauften Ratiopharm Arena staunen nicht schlecht – 28:16 nach zehn Minuten.

Das wollen sich auch die Bayern nicht bieten lassen, unterbinden jetzt die Fast Breaks und steigern ihre Wurfquote: Die Folge: Ein wildes Scheibenschießen mit insgesamt 64 (!) Punkten im zweiten Abschnitt. Die Ulmer gehen mit einem Vorsprung von Plus 6 in die Halbzeit – 57:51.

Bester Mann bis dato: Ulms Alphonso Plummer mit 20 Punkten, darunter vier verwandelte Würfen von draußen. Ohnehin ist die Dreierquote der Gastgeber überragend: 71 Prozent.

Die Bayern führen nur dreimal ganz kurz in der gesamten Partie und nie mit mehr als zwei Punkten.

Mann des Spiels ist Plummer, der ein überragende Leistung abliefert. Er bringt die Experten zum Staunen und die Halle zum Beben, macht 29 Punkte. Als er im letzten Spielabschnitt seinen sechsten Dreier im siebten Versuch trifft, muss Femerling lachen: „Das ist ja albern.“

Wenig später legt er den nächsten Dreier nach. Dyn-Kommentator Florian von Stackelberg aus dem Häuschen: „Der Junge ist so brandheiß, das ist unfassbar!“ Einhelliges Fazit an diesem Abend: Plummer ist der Hammer!

Das können sie nach dem zweiten Statement-Sieg innerhalb weniger Tage, nachdem Ulm am Sonntag schon den Dritten Chemnitz demontiert hatte (117:87). Plummer: „Dieses Team ist bereit, den Weg bis zum Ende zu gehen.“

Und die Bayern? Sie kassieren nicht nur eine ordentliche Klatsche, sondern bangen obendrein um einen Star. Kurz vor Ende läuft Nick Weiler-Babb unglücklich in den Ex-Münchner Weidemann, geht zu Boden, verletzt sich an der rechten Schulter. Er wird mit Eisbeutel behandelt, bleibt auf der Bank. Bitterer hätte der Abend vor dem Euroleague-“Endspiel“ kaum verlaufen können.
