As Wells was wheeled off the court with his head and neck stabilized, the Spectrum Center crowd offered applause, and Wells raised a hand in acknowledgment, signaling hope for his recovery. His father, Fred Wells, later provided an update, revealing that Jaylen was “awake and alert” but suffering from a swollen wrist, facial injuries, and back pain. He is set to undergo X-rays and a CT scan to assess the extent of his injuries.

Wells has been one of the brightest stars of the 2024-25 rookie class, carving out a rotation spot for the playoff-contending Grizzlies after being selected 39th overall in the NBA Draft.
