Überraschungsteam schlägt Überraschungsteam! Heidelberg, Fast-Absteiger der letzten Saison und durch den Sieg jetzt Dritter, weist den Sensations-Pokalsieger aus Weißenfels (Platz 6) im Kampf um die Play-offs in die Schranken.
Doch der „Überflieger“ der Partie ist keiner der Spieler, sondern der Schiedsrichter. Warum? Weil Benjamin Barth (46), einer von Deutschlands Top-Unparteiischen, mit dem Flugzeug zum Spiel eingeflogen kommt. Aber nicht etwa mit einer Linien-Maschine, sondern mit seinem eigenen Flieger! Das gab es nicht nur im Basketball, sondern im gesamten deutschen Profisport wohl noch nie.

Barth ist nicht nur Schiedsrichter, sondern auch noch Pilot, nutzt daher kurzerhand seine Flugfähigkeiten und jettet von Augsburg nach Mannheim (rund 250 km Luftlinie), fährt dann weiter zum Spielort Heidelberg.
Der fliegende Referee im Dyn-Interview mit Kommentator und Moderator Christoph Knieper: „Ob es eine Weltpremiere ist, weiß ich nicht, aber es ist für mich auf jeden Fall das allererste Mal. Ich habe sehr lange schon davon geträumt, mal zu einem BBL-Spiel mit meinem Flieger zu fliegen.“

Barth weiter: „Heute Morgen habe ich aus dem Fenster geschaut und habe gesagt: ‚Es ist so gutes Wetter und morgen ist auch so gutes Wetter, ich muss fliegen gehen.‘ Und warum nicht beide Hobbys verbinden? Und da habe ich gesagt, ich fliege einfach her, was auch echt cool war.“
Knieper hakt ein: „Um das jetzt klarzustellen, für alle, die jetzt eine BILD-Schlagzeile wittern: ‚Privatjet-Anreise von Schiedsrichter, BBL zahlt zu gut‘ – was ist das für eine Maschine, mit der du da fliegst?“
Mit diesem Propeller-Flugzeug ging es für Barth

Barth klärt schmunzelnd auf: „Das ist eine einmotorige Propellermaschine, die leer 400 Kilogramm wiegt. Das ist also nicht das größte Flugzeug der Welt und auch kein Privatjet, sondern ist einfach eine nette kleine Maschine, ein Zweisitzer.“
Nicht nur in der Luft, auch auf dem Parkett behält Barth anschließend den Überblick. Er sieht, wie Heidelberg einen 7:0-Sahnestart hinlegt, ziemlich schnell sogar mit Plus 12 führt. Zum Viertelende steht ein 26:20 und ein äußerst munterer Beginn vor 4.336 Zuschauern im SNP Dome. Zur Pause wächst der Vorsprung der Hausherren auf 46:38.
[–>Alles sieht nach einem lockeren Heimerfolg aus. Aber der Schein trügt! Am Ende des dritten Durchgangs ist der MBC plötzlich wieder dran. MBC-Oldie Tyren Johnson (36) setzt den letzten Wurf vor der Uhr, trifft für drei per Buzzer Beater zum 66:66-Ausgleich.
Dabei liegt sein Team wenige Minuten vorher noch mit 14 Zählern hinten. Irre! Bedeutet: Hochspannung im Schlussviertel. Dreht der Pokalsieger das Match komplett? Zum Start ins vierte Viertel legt der MBC nach, geht erstmals überhaupt im gesamten Spiel in Führung (68:66).
Doch Heidelberg erholt sich, hält dagegen, schnappt sich die Führung zurück und gibt sie bis zum Schluss nicht mehr her. Vor allem dank Top-Werfer Damariae Horne (20 Punkte) und Ryan Mikesell (17) bleiben die Punkte in Heidelberg.
