In seinem Podcast „Einfach mal Luppen“, den er gemeinsam mit Bruder Felix macht, zeigte sich der Ex-Real-Star verwundert über die Art und Weise, wie seine ehemalige Mannschaft mit dem Rückstand umging: „Nach dem 2:0 ging es dahin. Aus der Erfahrung ist es eigentlich immer so: Wenn Real zurückliegt, gibt es eigentlich immer noch eine Phase, wo du das Gefühl hast, jetzt machen sie noch einen.“

Der 35-Jährige vermisste den unerschütterlichen Glauben, der Real Madrid sonst auszeichnet. „Nach jedem einzelnen Tor ist diese Reaktion ausgeblieben“, erklärte Kroos. „Du weißt, dass dieses Tor so wichtig wäre“, sagte er.
