For the second year in a row, the Dallas Cowboys are disappointing fans with their lackluster free agency moves. Just like in 2024, the team’s signings have failed to impress, while key departures have further dampened morale. However, a daring trade could change everything in an instant.
Dallas faces shortcomings at several positions, particularly running back and receiver. With the 2025 NFL Draft just around the corner, analysts believe the team will address at least one of these gaps with top prospects.
Potential first-round picks include North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton, Arizona receiver Tetairoa McMillan, and Texas receiver Matthew Golden. Yet if Dallas opts to fill their receiver needs through free agency, Tyreek Hill could be an ideal candidate.
A move that could shake up the NFL
Bleacher Report analyst Moe Moton suggested that the Cowboys could pursue a trade for Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill. According to Moton, the trade package would look like this: Dallas acquires Hill and a fifth-round pick this year, while Miami receives Dallas’s 2025 second-round pick and a fourth-round pick in 2026.
The implications of such a deal would be monumental. While Hill didn’t meet expectations last season-due in part to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s absence-his blazing speed wasn’t a decisive factor for Miami’s success in 2024.
Dallas, however, could capitalize on Hill’s talent by pairing him with star receiver CeeDee Lamb, giving quarterback Dak Prescott one of the best receiving duos in the league.
The idea might seem far-fetched, but Moton pointed out that the Dolphins could be growing tired of Hill’s off-field antics. Recent trends also show that the Cowboys are willing to sign players with controversial reputations.
Financials favor the Cowboys
Dallas must still resolve linebacker Micah Parsons’ contract situation. Nonetheless, the team has $37.7 million in salary-cap space, and with a few restructured contracts, they could absorb Hill’s $27.7 million cap hit.
“If the Cowboys miss out on McMillan or choose to pass on him, they could call the Dolphins to orchestrate a blockbuster deal for Hill,” Moton speculated. While such a move might seem improbable, it remains within the realm of possibility. Only time will tell if this NFL shake-up comes to fruition.
