El joven jugador de snooker de 23 años, Jackson Page, se embolsó un inédito cheque de 147.000 libras (unos 171.500 euros) al convertirse en el primer profesional en lograr dos ‘breaks’ de 147 en un mismo partido en la fase clasificatoria del Campeonato Mundial de Snooker que comenzará este sábado en el Crucible Theatre de Sheffield.
Page, nacido en Gales, logró esta hazaña única, consistente en embocar todas las bolas de la mesa sin fallo, en el octavo y duodécimo ‘frame’ de su victoria por 10-2 sobre Allan Taylor en la tercera ronda de la fase previa del Mundial. Para añadir un mayor componente de épica y sorpresa a la historia, Jackson confesó que nunca antes había logrado un ‘máximo’ en competición oficial.
“Es una gran sensación conseguir mi primer y segundo ‘break’ en el circuito en el mismo partido”, declaró Page. “He logrado muchos en el club, claro, así que al final me pareció rutinario a pesar de estar en competición. Nunca intento ir a por el ‘máximo’ en un partido, pero después de lograr el primero sí me vi obligado a buscar el segundo.”
Con esta victoria, Page se acerca un paso más a regresar al ‘Crucible’, donde el año pasado perdió 10-1 contra Ronnie O’Sullivan en su primer partido. El joven galés, quien se enfrentará a Joe O’Connor en la ronda clasificatoria final de este martes, reconoció además que este inédito premio en metálico le viene especialmente bien, ya que tiene un hijo de tres meses y acaba de comprarse una casa.
