In a moment that had remained out of the public eye until recently, Taylor Swift privately met backstage with Leanne Lucas, a survivor of the horrific knife attack at the Hart Spade studio in Southport, England.
Lucas had co-hosted a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga class for children in July 2023 when attacker Axel Rudakubana entered the studio and carried out a brutal attack.
Three young girls-Alice Aguiar, 9, Bebe King, 6, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7-tragically died. Ten others were injured, including Lucas, who was stabbed five times while courageously leading children to safety and calling the police.
“I cannot give myself compassion or accept praise, as how can I live knowing I survived when children died,” Lucas said during Rudakubana‘s sentencing, where he was handed a 52-year prison sentence, according to BBC. “For Alice, Elsie, Bebe, Heidi and the surviving girls, I’m surviving for you.”
