Die Eisbären Berlin sind im ersten Finalspiel der Deutschen Eishockey Liga (DEL) gegen die Kölner Haie ihrer Favoritenrolle gerecht geworden. Der Titelverteidiger gewann die Auftaktbegegnung der Best-of-Seven-Serie letztlich klar mit 5:1 (1:0, 1:1, 3:0).
Weiter geht es am Samstag (19 Uhr, MagentaSport) in Köln.
Bltzstart der Eisbären mit einem Tor schon nach 25 Sekunden durch Liam Kirk. Der Titelverteidiger führt mit 1:0. Dann Chancen über Chancen für die Berliner vor 14.200 Fans in der ausverkauften Uber Arena. Doch mit viel Glück und Geschick bleibt es für die Haie nach dem 1. Drittel beim knappen Rückstand.
Der Titelverteidiger aus der Hauptstadt überraschend nervös, man merkt die neuntägige Spielpause sehr deutlich. Köln wie immer mit einem Abwehrbollwerk auf dem Eis.
Im Mittelabschnitt dann ein Fehler von Eisbären-Kapitän Kai Wissmann. Er legt einem Kölner den Puck direkt auf den Schläger. Ex-Eisbär Alex Grenier sagt danke. 400 mitgereiste Haie-Fans jubeln im Oberrang über den Ausgleich (24.). Plötzlich die abwehrstarken Kölner am Drücker. Torwart Hildebrand verhindert im Mittelabschnitt einen weiteren Treffer der Domstädter. Die Eisbären noch mit erstaunlich viel Fehlern im eigenen Drittel.
Aber dann! Jubel in der Berliner Arena. Verteidiger Korbinian Geibel fasst sich ein Herz und zieht von der blauen Linie ab, Marcel Noebels fälscht ab. Dem guten Hudacek saust der Puck durch die Beine – 2:1 ( 33.). Dieser junge Berliner Verteidiger (22) ist auch was für unsere Nationalmannschaft bei der WM! Geibel hat in den Eisbären-Jahren eine hervorragende Entwicklung genommen.
Im Schlussabschnitt zeigt der Meister dann seine große Stärke. Erst nutzt Kai Wissmann ein Überzahlspiel (5-3) zum 3:1 und macht so seinen Fehler aus dem 2. Drittel wieder gut. Der im ersten Finale überragende Liam Kirk ist dann nach einer wunderschönen Kombination erneut erfolgreich (51.) und Leo Pföderl macht mit dem 5:1 (56.) den Deckel drauf.

Die Eisbären brechen somit im ersten Spiel der Finalserie erfolgreich den Kölner Abwehrbeton.
Haie-Trainer Kari Jalonen: „Wir haben gut ins Spiel gefunden, aber vierzig Minuten reichen halt nicht aus.“
Eisbären-Trainer Serge Aubin: „Wir brauchten etwas Zeit, um in Schwung zu kommen. Anfangs waren meine Spieler noch etwas nervös, das haben wir aber dann gut in den Griff bekommen.“
