Za ironii osudu se dá pak hladce považovat, že Leicester koučuje Ruud van Nistelrooy. Ano, ten urostlý útočník, postrach obran v prvním desetiletí nového milénia, který považoval střílení branek za naprostou rutinu.

Jenže jeho svěřenci doma neskórovali v devíti po sobě jdoucích utkáních. To se v historii anglické nejvyšší soutěže, která se hraje od roku 1888, ještě nestalo. Nikomu. Nikdy. Za celých 137 let.

„Neexistují slova, která by vyjádřila mé pocity ohledně této sezony. Nemáme se na co vymlouvat. Ztrapnili jsme se, ohromně to bolí. Fanoušci, omlouváme se. Za to, že naše výkony prostě nebyly dobré,“ čertila se klubová legenda Jamie Vardy, která klubu v roce 2016 senzačně vystřílela ligový titul a odehrála za něj téměř 500 utkání.

Leicester v zápase rozhodně nevypadal jako soubor, jemuž by posílání balonu do sítě dělalo problém. Vždyť před očima svých příznivců zvítězil 6:2!

Jenže to byly dosud poslední branky, které příznivci Leicesteru na svém stánku slavili. A nebyly ligové. Takže střelecká nemohoucnost v nejvyšší vskutku platí za rekordní zápis. Mančafty, které bojují o záchranu, přitom potřebují sbírat body právě doma.

To se bez gólů dělá těžko.

„Za výsledky na sebe beru plnou zodpovědnost. Teď musíme využít čas, který zbývá do konce ročníku, abychom se připravili na ten další,“ velí van Nistelrooy.

Možná ho mrzí, že se v posledních měsících na hrot útoku nepostavil sám. Horší už by to, minimálně na domácím hřišti, být nemohlo…
