Pat McAfee,ESPN host and WWE Raw commentator, found himself at the center of chaos during Monday Night Raw, as WWE superstar Gunther unleashed a brutal attack that left McAfee hospitalized. The incident, which has since gone viral, has sparked speculation about McAfee’s potential return to the wrestling ring.
The drama unfolded during the Raw after WrestleMania 41, streamed on Netflix, when Gunther stormed the commentary table in a fit of rage. Furious over his World Heavyweight Title loss to Jey Uso at WrestleMania, the Austrian powerhouse confronted lead commentator Michael Cole.

After shoving McAfee to the ground, Gunther turned his attention to Cole, attempting to drag him into the ring. McAfee intervened, only to become the next target of Gunther’s wrath. Gunther locked McAfee in a sleeper hold for nearly a minute, leaving the former NFL star visibly purple and struggling to breathe.

McAfee later revealed on The Pat McAfee Show that he lost consciousness during the altercation and was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital for evaluation. “I had some blood coming up actually, I don’t know if it was from my lung ([or my throat),” McAfee shared, describing the aftermath of Gunther’s chokehold.
Despite the scripted nature of wrestling, McAfee’s experience was all too real. His cohosts attempted to intervene but were hilariously thwarted by security. The dramatic scene has sparked questions about whether McAfee will step back into the ring to confront Gunther. McAfee, who has prior in-ring experience, notably wrestling Adam Cole at WWE’s NXT: TakeOver in 2021, hinted at a possible showdown. “Gunther, I hope you’re happy buddy, but you may have signed up for something you DON’T WANT,” McAfee warned.
