Prince Louis, the youngest child of Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton, is celebrating his 7th birthday. To mark the occasion, the royal family released an adorable new portrait that captures both the charm and playfulness of the young prince, now proudly sporting a gap-toothed smile.
The photo, taken by photographer Josh Shinner, shows Louis sitting comfortably on a log in a garden bursting with spring flowers.
Dressed casually in a green sweater layered over a plaid shirt and blue jeans, Prince Louis appears relaxed and joyful. What makes the image even more endearing is his toothless smile, with both of his front teeth missing adding a dash of childhood innocence to the official portrait.
“Wishing Prince Louis a very Happy 7th Birthday!” the Prince and Princess of Wales wrote in the caption shared across their social media accounts.
This new birthday photo continues a long-standing tradition for the royal couple, who share a new portrait of each of their children annually to thank well-wishers and mark their special day.
A beloved royal tradition with personal touches
Though this year’s portrait was captured by a professional, the Princess of Wales often takes a hands-on approach when it comes to photographing her children. In fact, last year’s birthday image of Louis-celebrating his sixth-was an unedited snapshot taken by Kate herself. That gesture came shortly after public scrutiny surrounded a Mother’s Day photo she had previously edited.
Kate’s love of photography is well known, and over the years, she has shared many intimate and candid images of her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, showing their natural personalities and the joys of growing up in the royal spotlight.
For example, Louis‘ fifth birthday in 2023 was marked by two joyful portraits taken by Millie Pilkington, while his fourth birthday saw a set of energetic photos captured as he played on the beach. On his third birthday, the prince posed with a bright red bicycle, ready for his first day at nursery school-another milestone moment captured with authenticity and warmth.
