Lexie Hull, who recently announced her engagement, was showered with love and balloons as her teammates pulled off a sweet surprise during their workout session.

Hull got engaged to longtime boyfriend Will Matthiessen this past weekend and was clearly still glowing when she walked into practice.

But she wasn’t expecting what came next, with Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston racing over mid-session to deliver the surprise. Clark sprinted across the court to place a tiara labeled “bride” on Hull‘s head, while Boston followed with a bunch of celebratory balloons. The entire Fever squad erupted with cheers and claps as they circled around their teammate.

The Fever captured the adorable moment in a now-viral Instagram video, captioning the post: “A surprise for the newly engaged Lexie Hull after today’s workout.”

Hull, for her part, had the perfect reaction both in person and online.

“That’s so cute, guys,” she said in the video, clearly touched by the gesture.

Later, she reposted the clip to her Instagram Story with a hilarious caption: “My new contact photo for Caitlin Clark.”

Stanford love and WNBA rise

Hull‘s engagement announcement came just days prior, when she shared the big news with fans through an Instagram carousel of photos with Matthiessen. The couple’s story is a classic Stanford romance: both were standout athletes for the Cardinal.

While Hull carved out a career in women’s basketball, Matthiessen pursued professional baseball after being selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

He played in the minor leagues until his recent retirement in March 2024. Hull and Matthiessen remained together throughout their respective careers, and now they’re officially headed for the aisle.

Hull was drafted sixth overall by Indiana in the 2022 WNBA Draft and has quietly become a key contributor on a team that’s rapidly gaining attention.

Last season, she helped the Fever clinch their first playoff berth since 2016 – a significant turnaround for the once-struggling franchise.

The second: Game 4 of the 2024 Western Conference finals, when the veteran super-sub skittered all over the court, guarding Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert and every Timberwolf in between in a hard-fought 128-126 win that drew Oklahoma City within one win of the 2025 NBA Finals.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementNow that the Thunder are actually in the 2025 NBA Finals, though? Caruso has played 30-plus twice in four Finals games — the last two, now that you mention it.As the philosopher once said, “There are no coincidences.”That philosopher’s name?
