Pat McAfee has gone viral for offering the ex-Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy weed during the 2025 NFL Draft before the live crowd at the Green Bay Packers‘ Lambeau Field.
The 37-year-old, who was once a football player himself before becoming a pundit, takes the pen, resembling a vape, out from near his desk and takes a hit before offering it to the Super Bowl-winning coach.
McCarthy, however, meekly and politely declines before heading over to greet the commentator during a live episode of The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, April 24 as the NFL Draft got underway.
In the meantime, McAfee had laughed off the moment and tossed the pen into the crowd before having a few coughs after the hit, and the fans loved the moment as they took to X.com (formerly Twitter) to react.
One user wrote, “He’s just living his best life.”
A second added, “Now thats what I call a bold play call! Turning a typical broadcast into a smoke signal for good vibes.”
And a third noted, “A man for the people.”
Where could Mike McCarthy coach next?
McCarthy is currently out of a job after being fired by Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys at the end of his contract, failing to bring the Super Bowl championship to the AT&T Stadium.
He’s now looking for his next job, but has no plans to rush back into the coaching role after a move to the Chicago Bears failed to materialize with them opting for Ben Johnson instead.
NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero both confirmed the 61-year-old will skip the 2025 season in terms of coaching, taking a year to recharge his batteries, before he eyes up his next post in 2026.
He was in the running for the New Orleans Saints post, but opted to withdraw from the process. They were the final team looking for a new boss.
