Donald Trump lost his temper and lashed out on social media against the 32 NFL franchises on Thursday, after watching the first round of the 2025 Draft, when no team dared to take Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, considered one of the top prospects for this day.
Experts estimated that Sanders would be among the top five picks, but if not, he could go to the Saints at No. 9 or perhaps to the Steelers at No. 21. However, no one called him and he ended up being the big surprise of the first day of the Draft and the son of legend Deion Sanders is still without a team.
What a nightmare! Shedeur Sanders reacts to getting a prank call during the NFL Draft
Trump did not agree with what happened and through his social network Truth Social, he called the “NFL owners stupid” for letting a player of Sanders’ talent slip through the cracks in a league with a shortage of quarterbacks.
In his message, Trump acknowledged Shedeur’s talent and winning lineage, so he did not understand why they did not trust him:
What is wrong with the NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion was a great player and is a great coach. His son has PHENOMENAL genes and is ready for greatness. He should be picked right away by a team that wants to WIN
Trump also reiterated his recognition of ‘Prime Time’ Sanders’ career, now in his role as a coach, after winning two Super Bowls as a player and called him: “smart, streetwise and wise coach”. That is why the expectation about Shedeur’s future in the NFL is still high, the same with his brother Shilo, who is expected to be drafted in the middle rounds.
It is not the first time that Trump has clashed with the NFL and its structure. In 2017, he publicly criticized players who protested by kneeling during the national anthem, and recently questioned the inclusion policies promoted by commissioner Roger Goodell.
Shedeur Sanders’ record
In his final year of eligibility, Shedeur Sanders, 23, earned recognition as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year with the Buffaloes and several mock drafts had him high in the first round. However, there was no consensus on his ability as an elite talent and he remains available at the start of the second day of action.
