Cameroonian fighter Francis Ngannou is at the center of controversy after being linked to a tragic traffic accident in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, which resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl, identified as Ntsama Brigitte Manuella.
According to local media such as The Cameroon Concord and Cameroon Online, the incident is said to have taken place over the Easter weekend, although reports only began to circulate recently, initially driven by the citizen advocacy group N’Zui Manto.

The versions of how the events occurred are still contradictory, as some reports claim that Ngannou was driving a vehicle that collided with a motorcycle on which the teenager was riding.
Others, however, claim that Ngannou himself was riding a motorcycle at the time of the crash.
After the accident, the MMA fighter reportedly accompanied the girl to hospital, where she underwent surgery for injuries to her leg and arm.
However, the young woman never regained consciousness and died during the operation. This has raised questions in the local press as to whether her death was due to the seriousness of the accident or possible medical negligence.
Public pressure has been mounting, and both the authorities and the athlete’s representatives are facing growing calls to clarify the facts.
Tragedy haunts Francis Ngannou
Ngannou, 38, is an admired figure in his country for his inspiring life story, which took him from a childhood in poverty working in sand mines to becoming a world mixed martial arts champion.
However, this new situation adds to a difficult period for the athlete, who in August 2024 faced the painful loss of his 15-month-old son.
After leaving the UFC in 2023, Ngannou ventured into professional boxing and returned to MMA under the Professional Fighters League banner.
So far, no official statement has been issued by Ngannou’s team or the Cameroonian authorities.
