Seine Eltern sind trotzdem weiterhin dabei. Trotz der schweren Verletzung ihres Sohnes reisen Marc und Susanne Schlotterbeck weiterhin zu den BVB-Spielen, etwa zum Champions-League-Achtelfinale nach Barcelona Anfang April.
Kurz zuvor hatte Nico Schlotterbeck (25) einen Meniskusriss im Training erlitten. Weil er den Meniskus zusammennähen ließ, anstatt es konservativ behandeln zu lassen, fällt er mehrere Monate aus. Dafür ist sein Knie danach deutlich resistenter. Eine Entscheidung für die Zukunft – die beim BVB liegen wird.
[–>Nach SPORT BILD-Informationen fanden vor dem Verletzungsschock bereits mehrere Gespräche zwischen dem Innenverteidiger und den Bossen statt. Das klare Signal: Schlotterbeck wird seinen Vertrag verlängern. Der derzeit bis 2027 laufende Kontrakt soll dabei maximal ausgedehnt werden: bis 2030! Schlotterbeck hätte damit den größtmöglichen Vertrag, denn Arbeitspapiere sollen in der Bundesliga die Dauer von fünf Jahren nicht überschreiten.
Eine Unterschrift wird jedoch erst nach Saisonende erfolgen. Schlotterbeck, seit Saisonbeginn neben Julian Brandt (28) Vize-Kapitän, hat den Klub um etwas Geduld gebeten. Er wolle zunächst wieder auf die Beine kommen und die Reha beginnen, bevor er den Kugelschreiber zückt. Derzeit besteht der Alltag noch vorwiegend aus Behandlungen, die der Nationalspieler bekommt.
[–>In den Gesprächen betonten die Verantwortlichen, dass Schlotterbeck in den kommenden Jahren zum Gesicht des Vereins werden solle. Er gilt intern als der kommende BVB-Kapitän.
Der Abwehrspieler will nun aber zunächst Ruhe haben. Via Instagram hatte er bereits seinen Rückzug aus der Öffentlichkeit angekündigt: „Ich muss euch leider mitteilen, dass die Reha nach meiner Knieverletzung mehrere Monate in Anspruch nehmen wird. Es wird eine lange und herausfordernde Reise aber ich bin fest entschlossen, alles zu tun, um wieder topfit zu werden. In dieser Zeit werde ich mich auch aus der Öffentlichkeit und den sozialen Medien zurückziehen, um mich voll und ganz auf meine Genesung zu konzentrieren.“
