A new era begins for the New England Patriots, as after one year leading the team, Jerod Mayo was fired, and now the Pats will be led by Mike Vrabel, who was a three-time champion with the team as a player and had great moments as Head Coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2023.
Vrabel’s main objective will be to get the New England Patriots back on the competitive map in an AFC East division that has been led by Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in recent years. However, last season, the Pats defeated the Bills in one game, and in the other, Buffalo took the victory but with significant complications.

Another challenge for Mike Vrabel will be the development of Drake Maye, a first-round draft pick from last year, who had positive moments when he played. Now, entering his second year, he will aim to become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
Vrabel brought Josh McDaniels back as offensive coordinator
Josh McDaniels is returning for the third time to the Patriots organization after two successful stints working alongside Tom Brady. The relationship between Tom Brady and Josh McDaniels was one of the most successful in recent NFL history.
McDaniels was the offensive coordinator for the Patriots in two key periods: from 2006 to 2008 and then from 2012 to 2019. During that time, Brady achieved some of the greatest accomplishments of his career, including the historic 2007 season when he threw 50 touchdown passes.
In their second stint together, the duo won three more Super Bowls (XLIX, LI, and LIII), and now McDaniels has that mission with Drake Maye.
“I think his approach-he’s been an offensive coordinator and head coach,” Maye said, according to Mark Daniels from MassLive.com. “He does it at a high level. Things work. The proof is in the results. He’s coached many different players. He coached the best of all time”.
“So it’s pretty cool to be able to see the old stuff from Tom [Brady], and see how he did it. Many different players have played at a high level in this offense, not just Tom. So it’s been great to watch and learn his methods and all the details.”
In 2024, Maye completed 67% of his passes for 2,276 yards, with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. 2025 could be the year where he establishes himself in the NFL.
