WTA de SP deve contar com Bia Haddad na chave (Divulgação/BJKC)

A WTA anunciou uma novidade para os torcedores brasileiros. A entidade máxima do tênis feminino confirmou na última quarta-feira (30), a inclusão de um WTA 250 em São Paulo marcado já para setembro de 2025, entre os dias 8 e 14 daquele mês.

O torneio será disputado em quadra rápida, mas ainda sem local definido na capital paulista.

“O São Paulo Open de Tênis é mais um grande ativo que a IMM, principal empresa do País nos segmentos de esporte e entretenimento, traz para a Cidade de São Paulo. Sempre tivemos o desejo de promover uma competição feminina de alto nível, reunindo grandes jogadoras. Agora, graças ao apoio da Prefeitura e de importantes marcas, vamos realizar esse sonho.”, comemora Alan Adler, CEO da IMM. A empresa é responsável por trazer o WTA 250.

Entidade não tinha torneio de elite desde 2016

O fato é que o Brasil voltará a ter um torneio do calendário principal da WTA, depois de nove anos. Em 2016, foi realizado a última edição do Brasil Tennis Cup. A disputa acontecia, desde 2013, no saibro em Florianópolis. A brasileira Teliana Pereira faturou a edição de 2015.

Como vai funcionar o SP Open

O SP Open terá 32 tenistas na chave principal, 24 no qualifying e 16 duplas num dos maiores espaços verdes da cidade de São Paulo. O qualifying será disputado nos dias 6 e 7, além da chave principal.

Principais brasileiras do circuito devem participar

Se nos atemos, só as principais tenistas brasileiras do ranking mundial, Bia Haddad e Laura Pigossi, a tendência é que ambas participem do novo torneio.
