Für Kees van Wonderen (56) ist Schluss bei Schalke. Nicht wie geplant zum Ende der Saison, sondern mit sofortiger Wirkung. Nach dem 0:2 gegen Paderborn wurden van Wonderen und sein Co-Trainer Robert Molenaar freigestellt. Das teilte der Verein offiziell mit.
[–>Bis zum Saisonende übernimmt U23-Trainer Jakob Fimpel (36) die Mannschaft. Vereinslegende Youri Mulder (56), Direktor Profifußball bei Schalke, erklärte: „Insbesondere das Auftreten und die Entwicklung in den vergangenen zwei Wochen geben Anlass zur Sorge. Wir sind nur noch sechs Punkte vom Relegationsplatz entfernt, der Trend ist negativ. Deshalb haben wir uns dazu entschieden, jetzt zu reagieren. Wir haben eine Verantwortung gegenüber dem Verein. Wir danken Kees und Robert für ihre Arbeit und wünschen ihnen alles Gute für die Zukunft.“
Den letzten Sieg feiert Schalke Anfang April mit einem 2:1 gegen Ulm; seitdem hat der Klub vier Spiele lang keinen Sieg eingefahren. An den letzten beiden Spieltagen trifft Schalke auf die beiden Aufstiegsaspiranten Fortuna Düsseldorf und SV Elversberg.
Jetzt kommt Fimpel
Youri Mulder über Feuerwehrmann Fimpel: „Wir sind Jakob sehr dankbar, dass er diese Aufgabe, die für den Verein von großer Bedeutung ist, übernimmt.“ Fimpel hatte bereits in der Hinrunde zweimal gecoacht und einen 2:1 gegen Preußen Münster und ein 2:2 gegen Hertha erreicht.
Fimpel über seine Rettungs-Mission: „Die Situation ist anders als im Herbst, dessen bin ich mir total bewusst. Es geht darum, die Aufgabe im Saisonendspurt anzunehmen und mit dem richtigen Geist jeden Tag auf den Platz zu gehen.“
Mit dem Aus von van Wonderen läuft die Trainerdiskussion auf Schalke wieder auf Hochtouren: Wer übernimmt den Pott-Klub zur neuen Saison? Pikant: Ausgerechnet der mögliche Nachfolger des Holländers verpasste van Wonderen den Trainer-K.o.: Lukas Kwasniok (43), der zum Saisonende Paderborn verlässt, brachte sich vor dem Spiel am Freitag ins Spiel.

Kwasniok über Schalke: „Warum sollte ich ausschließen, nächste Saison auf Schalke zu arbeiten – das wäre erstunken und erlogen. Es ist ein großer, toller Verein.“ Steigt er erst mit dem SCP auf – um dann mit Schalke den nächsten Anlauf zu nehmen?
