King Charles III has made his first public appearance since Prince Harry‘s bombshell interview aired, sparking a fresh wave of speculation about the relationship between the estranged father and son amid growing tensions.
The 76-year-old monarch, who has remained largely out of the media spotlight in recent weeks, was spotted on Sunday heading to a church service at St. Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
Clad in a dark, somber suit, he was seen in the backseat of a black car just before the 11am service, while Camilla was noticeably absent, adding fuel to rumors that the Royal Family is deeply affected by the recent media storm surrounding Prince Harry.
The sighting comes just days after the Duke of Sussex’s incendiary BBC interview, where the 40-year-old made headlines by criticizing his father, King Charles, over their ongoing dispute regarding royal security.
During the interview, he stated that he was still hopeful for a “reconciliation” with his father, but he also pointed fingers at the Royal Family for his failed legal battle to secure taxpayer-funded security while in the UK.
Despite expressing a desire for peace with Harry concerned about his father’s cancer battle, sources close to the Royal Family are less optimistic about the prospects for healing the rift.
Palace insiders have revealed that King Charles was open to a private reunion, hoping to resolve their differences. However, Harry’s choice to air these grievances in such a high-profile interview reportedly left the monarch “deeply hurt” and “frustrated.”
“His Majesty is still undergoing cancer treatment,” an insider said, as per RadarOnline.com. “The last thing he needs is his own son undermining him in the press.”
Markle makes matter worse
As tensions between father and son reached a boiling point, Meghan Markle’s social media actions have added more fuel to the fire as just after Harry’s interview aired, Meghan posted a black-and-white photo of Harry with their children, Archie and Lilibet.
This move was interpreted by some royal watchers as a deliberate PR strategy, designed to further highlight Harry’s role as a dedicated father while subtly making a point about his family’s treatment by the royal family.
“It was deliberate,” a royal commentator said. “The picture dropped just after the interview aired.
“Meghan’s message was clear: no matter how they’re treated by the royals, Harry is a loving dad – and that’s what matters.”
Yet despite the ongoing media firestorm, King Charles appeared calm and composed during his outing on the Sandringham estate. He reportedly stayed at Wood Farm, a more private farmhouse retreat.
It was once favored by the late Prince Philip, his father, and has since become a sanctuary of sorts for the monarch as he navigates the fallout from his son’s public remarks.
