Der knallharte Urteilsspruch des unabhängigen Handballgerichts des Österreichischen Handballbundes (ÖHB) gegen Ivan Horvat (32, von 2016 bis 2018 bei der SG Flensburg) vom Alpla HC Hard sorgt in Österreich und dessen Grenzen hinaus für Diskussionen.
Horvat hatte im Play-off-Viertelfinale um die Meisterschaft den Nationalspieler Markus Mahr (24, Bregenz Handball, ab Sommer 1. VfL Potsdam) mit einem Handkantenschlag in die Klinik befördert. Offener Nasenbeinbruch, Operation, längere Pause. Horvat wurde vom ÖHB erstinstanzlich für zwei Jahre gesperrt, er kann in die Berufung gehen.

Handball: Harte Kritik an Österreichs Mega-Sperre
Jetzt hat sich eine in Deutschland bekannte, österreichische Handball-Ikone zu Wort gemeldet. Konrad „Conny“ Wilczynski (43), von 2006 bis 2011 Mittelmann der Füchse Berlin und in der Saison 2007/08 mit 237 Treffern Torschützen-König der Handball-Bundesliga, hat in seiner Funktion als TV-Experte beim ORF klar Stellung zum Foul und der Sperre bezogen.
„Es gibt keine zwei Meinungen, dass so ein Foul nichts im Handball verloren hat. Horvat geht ein viel zu großes Risiko“, sagt der Ex-Nationalspieler (136 Partien für Österreich). „Das muss bestraft werden. Aber wenn ich ehrlich bin, ist das Urteil auch keine Werbung für den Handball-Sport. Für mich stimmt die Verhältnismäßigkeit nicht.“
[–>Wilczynski befürchtet auf Sicht Auswirkungen: „Ich weiß nicht, ob das der Integrität unseres Sports hilft. Das schreckt nicht nur Spieler, sondern vielleicht auch Kinder ab, wenn man so ein langes Urteil fällt.“
Auch aus dem deutschen Handball kommen kritische Stimmen. Ex-Bundesliga-Profi Lars Lehnhoff (38, früher TSV Hannover-Burgdorf): „Sicherlich war Horvats Einsteigen gegen Mahr viel zu hart. Aber das Urteil gegen Horvat halte ich für unangemessen.“
Der in Bozen (Italien) geborene Kroate wurde in der regulären Saison der ersten Liga Österreichs nicht als Handball-Rowdy auffällig. Horvat, der nach der Karriere als Physiotherapeut arbeiten möchte, hatte im Schnitt 0,85 Strafminuten pro Partie kassiert.
