Der Skandal um die Schlägerei vor einem Belgrader Nachtclub. Drei Basketball-Profis von Partizan Belgrad waren in der Nacht zu Montag in eine Prügelei verwickelt. Zuvor waren die Spieler und ihre Begleiterinnen offenbar rassistisch beleidigt worden.
Bei der Auseinandersetzung bekam ein Mann eine Flasche über den Kopf gezogen und wurde schwer verletzt. Laut dem serbische Fußball-Nationalspieler Aleksandar Prijovic (35), der an dem Abend ebenfalls in dem Club war, wird er nach dem Schlag lebenslange Folgen davontragen.
[–>Jetzt veröffentliche Partizan auf seiner Homepage die Namen der beteiligten Spieler: Carlik Jones (27), Sterling Brown (30) sowie der deutsche Weltmeister Isaac Bonga (25). Der zuvor in serbischen Medien irrtümliche genannte Frank Ntilikina (26) war bei dem Vorfall nicht anwesend. Zudem hätten die drei Profis bei der Polizei ihre Aussage gemacht.
Zudem gaben die Spieler ein offizielles Statement ab und entschuldigten sich. Darunter auch Bonga.

„Es tut mir leid, wie sich die Situation entwickelt hat“, wird der ehemalige NBA-Profi zitiert. „Ich habe der Polizei den gesamten Vorfall gemeldet und vollumfänglich kooperiert. Als Profisportler habe ich hohe Ansprüche an mich selbst und bin mir bewusst, dass ich mich anders hätte verhalten können. Ich entschuldige mich beim Verein für die dadurch verursachte unerwünschte Aufmerksamkeit. So etwas nehme ich nicht auf die leichte Schulter – und es wird nicht wieder passieren.“
Laut einem Video, das auf der Plattform „X“ (früher Twitter) kursiert, ist zu vermuten, dass Jones mit der Flasche zuschlug.

Er sagt: „Ich möchte mich zutiefst für den Vorfall entschuldigen. Ich habe mich an etwas beteiligt, auf das ich nicht stolz bin. Dieses Verhalten war für einen Profisportler unangemessen. Es ist enttäuschend und eine Schande für mich, meine Familie, meine Teamkollegen, den Verein, den Präsidenten und das Management. Ich möchte mich bei allen entschuldigen, die mich unterstützen und mich als Vorbild sehen. Ich verspreche, dass ich diese Person nicht wirklich kenne. Ich hoffe, diese Situation zu überwinden, aus meinen Fehlern zu lernen und mich auf Basketball und die Ziele meines Teams zu konzentrieren. Vielen Dank an die schwarz-weiße Familie.“
Und auch Sterling Brown zeigt Einsicht und Demut: „Trotz der Tatsache, dass wir angegriffen wurden, bin ich mir bewusst, dass wir uns überhaupt nicht in diese Situation hätten bringen dürfen. Es tut mir leid, denn dieses Verhalten ist nicht das Vorbild, das wir als Spieler geben sollten. Ich entschuldige mich bei der Öffentlichkeit, den Fans, den Teamkollegen, dem professionellen Personal, dem Präsidenten und dem Vorstand. Persönlich hasse ich es, dass ich mich in diese Situation gebracht habe, und ich möchte es auf die beste Art und Weise wiedergutmachen – auf dem Spielfeld.“
Ob die drei Profis darüber hinaus eine interne Strafe vom Verein kassieren, ist offen.
