The long-anticipated contract extension for Micah Parsons remains unresolved as the Dallas Cowboys approach the summer, but now the executive vice president Stephen Jones offers an update but fans may not be happy.
Parsons, one of the NFL’s elite defensive talents, is widely expected to reset the market for non-quarterbacks once a new deal is finalized.

However, with training camp approaching and no agreement in place, the timeline for a resolution remains unclear.
And Jones, son of Jerry, offered no hint at a resolution to the matter by stating that the negotiations are still “a work in progress”, potentially worrying news for fans of the Texas-based team.

“I’ve never been one to crystal ball when contracts get done,” Jones said on May 12 to MadDogRadio. “You can be close, you think you’re right around the corner.
“And then they get pushed out and there’s extenuating circumstances as to why they or their agent doesn’t want to pull the trigger. So, that’s just a work in progress.”
“It’s never easy to comment on them because you really don’t know where you are until both sides are ready to go. But obviously our goal is to, and we have visited at times with Micah, and our goal is to get him here.
“And I think Micah wants to be a Cowboy, and we want him to be a Cowboy long term.”
Will Parsons skip Dallas training?
This should not come as a surprise. This methodical approach has become a pattern for the Cowboys‘ front office in recent deals for the likes of Dak Prescott and Ceedee Lamb, the latter missing significant portions of preseason practice in 2024.
Despite the uncertainty, Parsons has made it clear that he does not intend to hold out from training camp, even if no contract is signed by then as he commits to being present from the start.
“It’s extremely important,” Parsons told DallasCowboys.com of attending. “I mean, you really see a lot of players struggle when guys aren’t participating in camp and they’re getting off to slow starts.
“Don’t want to get off to a slow start. I want to hit the ground running and establish ourselves in this league and get some wins early in the season and be in rhythm.
“It’s going to be extremely important for me to get going and lead these guys.”
As one of the NFL’s most impactful defenders since entering the league, Parsons’ contract situation looms large over the Cowboys‘ offseason; but fans should rest easy knowing there’s no red flags on the wall just yet.
Who do the Cowboys play in the 2025/26 NFL season?
