Der Sieg im Pokalfinale hätte das Ticket für Europa sein sollen. Stattdessen verlor Milan mit 0:1 gegen den FC Bologna. Die sicherten sich damit den ersten Titel seit 51 Jahren. Während die Bolognesi feierten, wird Milan von der italienischen Presse zerlegt.

Der deutsche Verteidiger Malick Thiaw (23) saß die gesamte Spieldauer nur auf der Bank, während seine Kollegen die Fans enttäuschten.
Die Gazetta weiter: „Die Niederlage ist die logische Konsequenz. (…) Die Niederlage im Finale der Coppa Italia wird Milan allerdings zu weitaus wichtigeren Entscheidungen zwingen.“
Bitter: Mit derzeit Platz acht in der Liga würden sie nächste Saison nicht international spielen – zwei Spieltage vor Saison-Ende bleibt aber noch eine Restchance, sich einen der oberen Plätze zu sichern. Mit einem Sieg gegen Bologna wären sie für die Europa League qualifiziert gewesen.
