Lewis Dunk is back in the Brighton & Hove Albion squad for the final home game of the season against Liverpool on Monday.
The long-serving captain sat out last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers as a precaution, because of a minor hamstring issue.
Head coach Fabian Hurzeler confirmed Dunk’s availability this morning during his press conference for Liverpool’s visit.

Hurzeler’s side kept a first clean sheet in the league for ten games in the victory at Molineux, with Adam Webster replacing Dunk in the centre of defence alongside player of the season Jan Paul van Hecke.
It was Webster’s first start since sustaining a hamstring injury in the FA Cup quarter-final exit on penalties against Nottingham Forest at the Amex Stadium in March.
Dunk has not been an automatic choice after previous injuries this season. All of his Premier League appearances for the club had been as a starter until a landmark 250th outing on his return from a calf issue as a substitute in a 1-1 home draw against Southampton in November.
Hurzeler could be without Kaoru Mitoma in the starting line-up for the fifth match running. The Japanese left-winger has been limited to substitute appearances recently due to heel and back problems.
“Kaoru had some small issues, so hopefully he will be a possibility (for the squad),” said Hurzeler.
The Liverpool players have been partying in Dubai this week and head coach Arne Slot has been on a break in Ibiza after they wrapped up the title at the end of April.
“I am not focusing on them,” Hurzeler said. “They deserved it. They won the Premier League in an impressive way. It’s not our responsibility to comment on that.
“Our responsibility is to be ready on Monday, to be the best prepared team we can be, to play a high-intensity game, to compete with a lot of individual quality.”

NFL owners to vote on reseeding playoff teams in second round at league meetings
While the potential outlawing of the Philadelphia Eagles’ beloved tush-push play has drawn significant attention in advance of next week’s league meetings in Minneapolis, NFL owners have a chance to dramatically change the complexion of the postseason thanks to another rule proposal.Owners will vote on the Detroit Lions’ proposal to reseed playoff teams in the second round based on records rather than strictly awarding homefield advantage to divisional winners, according to a memo issued to teams this week.AdvertisementDetroit had presented a similar rule change in advance of the owners’ meetings in Palm Beach back in late March, but that proposal based home-field advantage in the playoffs strictly on record. There wasn’t enough support for an official vote, as owners didn’t like the idea of completely stripping divisional winners of home-field advantage. However, the proposal received a modification that would continue to […]

MLB rivalry weekend: A history of baseball’s weirdest beefs
<!--> MLB's inaugural Rivalry Weekend is here, as a result of the schedule switching to the anything goes balanced format that allows for interleague at any time, rather than carefully scheduled siloing of American League and National League teams away from each other. Which means there's nothing stopping the Dodgers and Angels from facing off against each other to vie for Los Angeles supremacy. Or the Cubs and White Sox to play three to determine who owns Chicago. Or for the Yankees and Mets to… you get it.Listen, there are a lot of geography-based rivalries in MLB, and there's nothing wrong with that. It's a proven system! Nothing gets a fan more annoyed than someone they know with sport team preferences different from their own being happier than they are. Not all of MLB's rivalries can be distilled to proximity, […]

Sizing up the AL West: Mariners, Rangers, Astros, A’s all jockeying for division title in 2025
If this season has shown us anything so far, it’s that the American League has few elite teams, and the majority of the squads are fighting for position in the middle of the pack. As a result, the early divisional battles have become even more interesting. This season, the AL West is as wide open as it has been in recent memory, with no team having a clear advantage over the others. The Angels, after a strong start, have fallen back from the rest of the group. But entering play Friday, just two games separate first place from fourth in this division, and there has already been plenty of jockeying for position. As of mid-May, the 2025 AL West title looks very much up for grabs.Let’s take a look at the contenders.Seattle Mariners, 23-192025 is a big year for the Mariners, […]
