Nicola Peltz, the ‘new Meghan Markle’: She’s forced Brooklyn Beckham to choose between her mother Victoria and herself

A growing rift in the Beckham household is drawing striking parallels to the British royal family‘s internal drama.

Brooklyn Beckham, the eldest son of global icons David and Victoria Beckham, is at the center of a family feud that experts say echoes Prince Harry‘s split from the monarchy-both marked by choosing their wives over their birth families.

Brooklyn’s absence from recent milestone events, including his father David’s 50th birthday celebration and his brother Romeo’s 21st, has raised eyebrows and intensified speculation of a deepening divide.

His decision to skip both events came amidst reports of tension between his wife Nicola Peltz and his mother Victoria. Adding to the intrigue, Romeo’s girlfriend Kim Turnbull – Brooklyn’s former flame – was in attendance at the birthday bash, which may have contributed to Brooklyn’s decision to stay away.

Commentators have drawn a line between this ongoing family fallout and what many call “Megxit 2.0.” Royal expert Samara Gill believes Brooklyn is deliberately pulling away from the Beckham clan, likening his situation to Prince Harry‘s retreat from royal duties in favor of life with Meghan Markle.

In a recent episode of The Sun’s Royal Exclusive Show, both Gill and veteran royal photographer Arthur Edwards discussed how Brooklyn, much like Harry, appears to have realigned his priorities-placing marital loyalty above familial ties.

Sussex Support: A New Circle of Influence

As the public watches the Beckham drama unfold, another layer of intrigue has emerged: Brooklyn and Nicola recently dined with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the Sussexes’ Montecito mansion.

The meeting came just days after David’s birthday celebration, which Brooklyn and Nicola skipped. Reports suggest the two couples have bonded over their shared experiences of public scrutiny and familial estrangement. A source close to the Sussexes said the evening was warm and supportive, with Meghan and Nicola reportedly connecting over the strain of being blamed for “tearing families apart.”

Brooklyn, who married Nicola Peltz in April 2022, has since relocated to the U.S. and seems increasingly detached from his British roots. Critics have pointed out that despite years of support from his parents-including financial backing for his photography book and cooking show-Brooklyn now appears more aligned with the wealth and lifestyle of his billionaire in-laws.

Nicola’s father, Nelson Peltz, holds major corporate titles and is estimated to be worth billions, making the couple’s American base both emotionally and economically strategic.

The drama is compounded by lingering friction between Victoria Beckham and Meghan Markle. Their own falling-out reportedly occurred in 2020 after Meghan allegedly accused Victoria of leaking personal stories to the media.

Arthur Edwards summed up the sentiment felt by many.

“I don’t know why he didn’t go to his father’s party. I think he should have been there.”

Whether this feud will blow over or become a lasting rupture remains to be seen. But one thing is clear-like the royals, the Beckhams are finding that love, loyalty, and legacy don’t always align.

The offside law, Bill McCracken and, a century on, the decision that changed football forever

One hundred years ago today, at a meeting at 22 Rue de Londres, Paris, association football — soccer — changed forever. The International Football Association Board voted that Law 11 of the game, the offside law, would be altered from season 1925-26 so that two players would need to be between an attacker and the goal line to remain onside, not three as it had been previously.AdvertisementThis was arguably the most significant rule change since football was professionalised in the mid-1880s. It is possibly the most significant until the introduction of the back-pass rule in 1992. It may even have a claim to be the biggest moment in the history of the professional sport. Every organised match played since 1925 has had its geometry defined by the June 1925 offside law.The reason for the change was that matches had become clogged […]

Real Madrid’s academy players at the Club World Cup – who are they and could they play?

Real Madrid have announced their 34-man squad for the Club World Cup — with a twist.Six of the 24 first-team players in the squad are injured: Antonio Rudiger, Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga and Endrick. None of them are expected to be fit when Madrid kick off their tournament against Al Hilal in Miami on Wednesday.AdvertisementThat helps explain why Xabi Alonso has called up 10 players from the academy for the trip to the United States. But who are they and what does their future look like?Madrid do not often draft youngsters immediately into the first team, so patience is needed. Raul Asencio is a rare example of a player from ‘La Fabrica’ being thrown into the deep end, playing 42 first-team games last season after an injury crisis in defence. The Athletic has spoken to training-ground sources, […]

Why do Man Utd keep signing such coveted players? Easy. They’re massive

Why is anyone remotely surprised that Manchester United, despite suffering their worst season since being relegated in 1973-74, remain attractive to players?United are one of the three biggest clubs in the world, along with Barcelona and Real Madrid. Their history of triumphs and tragedy is one of the most compelling in football, and they are remarkably resilient. After relegation in the 1970s, crowds increased. In 1949, the club attracted 81,565 fans for an FA Cup game against non-League Yeovil Town that wasn’t even played at home: the tie was staged at Maine Road, United’s temporary stadium as Old Trafford was being repaired due to bomb damage.Regardless of results that left them 15th in last season’s Premier League, United’s DNA is appealing: attacking football, promoting young players, never giving up. The gates are huge (an average of 73,815 last term), the […]

The problem with the Club World Cup – these teams are not the best of the best

For Gianni Infantino, it’s Christmas Eve.Back in 2016, not long after he was elected Sepp Blatter’s replacement as FIFA president, Infantino suggested the Club World Cup, hitherto a brief winter interlude consisting of a handful of matches played over less than two weeks, should be expanded on the basis that the old format was “not exactly inspiring”, and that his new setup would bring together “the best 32 clubs in the world”.AdvertisementNow, almost a decade on, Infantino’s big idea — the thing he hopes will be his lasting legacy in the game — is finally here. The big jamboree kicks off in the United States on Saturday, but the problem is, when you take a closer look at the teams involved, you wonder whether Infantino’s promise that these are the best of the best will be fulfilled.Of the 32 participating sides, which […]

It’s too early for England to miss Southgate – but he would never risk alienating his talisman

Delap, Jackson and the Chelsea players who have the most to gain at the Club World Cup

Chelsea have named their Club World Cup squad, and this summer’s tournament in the United States represents a huge opportunity for the players selected to prove a point before the start of next season.FIFA’s revamped, greatly expanded and rescheduled competition may have its fair share of detractors, but Chelsea are taking it seriously. Not only do they want to lift the trophy and be crowned world champions, having won the much-smaller-scale annual version of the Club World Cup three years ago, but it is also seen as vital preparation for their 2025-26 challenge domestically and in the Champions League.AdvertisementWith Chelsea hoping their involvement lasts until July 13, when the final takes place, this trip is also being regarded as a major part of the club’s pre-season preparations.
