Grund: Er zieht die Abschlussfeier seines Sohnes Benedict (23) vor. Der hat sein Studium in an der University of Southern California, einer Privat-Uni in Los Angeles, vor kurzem beendet. Benedict stammt aus Totos erster Ehe.

Alleine lässt er seine Fahrer George Russell (27) und Kimi Antonelli (18) aber nicht. Am Freitag veröffentlichte der Rennstall bei X (vormals Twitter) einen WhatsApp-Videoanruf von Wolff bei dem Duo.
Wolff: „Es wird das erste Rennen sein, von dem ich komplett abgeschnitten bin. Dieser Grand Prix ist für Euch beide wichtig, vor allem aber für Kimi. Du wirst eine Menge Druck verspüren von Seiten der italienischen Medien. (…) Schiebe alles von Dir weg, was nicht gut für Dich ist.“
Während der Rede von Wolff schwenkt die Kamera auf Antonelli. Der Italiener wurde in Bologna (knapp 50 Kilometer vom Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari) geboren. Kimi nickt in Richtung Toto.

Wolff: „Du bist 27 Jahre at. Du bist der ältere Fahrer in diesem Team, Du hast alles gesehen und erlebt. Und Du kannst besser damit umgehen als ein 18-Jähriger vor seinem ersten Rennen in Bologna, seiner Heimatstadt.“

Wolff verspricht den Fahrern, dass er live ihre Zeiten verfolgen wird. Dazu will er per Whatsapp mit dem Team in Verbindung bleiben: „Aber Ihr werdet mich während des Rennens nicht auf Euren Ohren haben. Das ist Euer Vorteil. Ich hoffe, es klappt alles! Macht’s gut!“.
Im Qualifying am Samstag nahm sich Antonelli die Worte noch nicht zu Herzen. Er landete nur auf einem enttäuschenden 13. Platz. George Russell startet von Position 3 in den AWS Formula 1 Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell’Emilia-Romagna.
