For the first time since his mysterious 2023 hospitalization, Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has directly addressed the bizarre online theories that suggested music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was somehow involved in his medical crisis.
Speaking during a Hollywood Reporter roundtable, Foxx opened up about the moment he realized the internet had gone into a frenzy during his time out of the spotlight.
“… I snuck in my phone because I didn’t know what the outside world was saying and I couldn’t get my mind around the fact that I had a stroke. I’m in f-kng perfect shape,” he recalled. “[I see things like,] ‘Puffy tried to kill me.’ No, Puffy didn’t try to kill me.”
The actor’s blunt rebuttal put to rest a conspiracy that had circulated after he was hospitalized for what was initially described as a “medical complication.” Foxx, 57, has since confirmed that he suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke – one so severe that doctors had to act immediately to save his life.
Music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faces at least 15 years in prison if convicted as trial begins
“They told my sister Deidra Dixon, ‘If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him,'” he shared in his recent Netflix comedy special, What Had Happened Was. After the operation, the prognosis remained uncertain.
“‘We didn’t find where it was coming from, but he is having a stroke. He may be able to make a full recovery but it’s going to be the worst year of his life.'”
From rumors to recovery: Foxx finds humor in the chaos
While Foxx faced a long and painful recovery behind closed doors, the internet had its own narrative – one filled with speculation, misinformation, and increasingly strange claims. Chief among them was the idea that Combs, who has faced mounting legal troubles in recent months, was somehow connected to Foxx’s health issues.
“The internet said Puffy was trying to kill me, that’s what the internet was saying,” he told his Netflix audience. “I know what you thinking, ‘Diddy?’ Hell no, I left them parties early.”
Foxx took the opportunity to poke fun at Combs‘ reputation for hosting notorious celebrity parties, which have since come under greater scrutiny. “I was out by 9,” Foxx quipped. “Something didn’t look right.”
He even referenced the rumors of “Freak-Offs” – wild, private events allegedly held at some of Combs’ gatherings – but dismissed them with a comedian’s timing and a dose of sarcasm.
Still, one rumor in particular seemed to hit a nerve more than the others: “When they said I was a clone, that made me flip. I’m sitting in the hospital bed, like, ‘These bitch-ass motherf-kers are trying to clone me,'” he joked.
Though he keeps much of his personal life private, Foxx‘s return to the public eye through humor has allowed him to take control of the narrative. His Netflix special has been praised for its honesty and levity, offering audiences both insight and laughter after a year filled with concern and confusion.
With Combs now facing serious legal challenges including allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering – charges he has denied – Foxx’s decision to address the speculation head-on brings clarity to a story clouded by viral half-truths.
Despite nearly losing his life, Jamie Foxx is back with the same sharp wit and candor that made him a Hollywood powerhouse – now with one more unbelievable story to tell, and no time for anyone else’s.
