Ben Shapiro launched a sharp critique targeting several high-profile entertainers, particularly going after Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lopez, who he slams as middle-aged stars pretending to be teenagers to maintain relevance.
The conservative commentator, known for his outspoken views on culture and politics, accuses them of clinging to youthful personas long past their prime in a bid to remain influential with the younger generation.
He started his ire with Swift, who criticized for continuing to portray herself as a young, lovelorn teenager in her music – which continues to prove successful as evidenced by the Eras Tour.
“You see it in the lyrics of a Taylor Swift,” Shapiro said on his podcast. “Also who pretends to be a lovelorn 16-year-old girl.

“When in fact Taylor Swift is currently age 35.”
He extended his outrage to other performers, including Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez. The 40-year-old Perry was accused of “making a fool of herself” with recent performances.
Whilst the 55-year-old Lopez drew particular attention after a controversial performance at the American Music Awards (AMAs) where she engaged in a provocative group kiss with backup dancers; invoking memories of Madonna’s similar stunt.
Shapiro framed his comments as part of a wider societal phenomenon. He lamented the tendency of middle-aged individuals in entertainment to reject their actual age and instead adopt behaviors associated with teenagers or young adults.
“There is this thing that’s happening in our culture,” the 41-year-old Shapiro said. “Where a bunch of people are masquerading as 17-year-olds who are actually middle-aged.
“If you are of middle age, you should act like you are middle age… Like you’re not a 17-year-old, or a 21-year-old trying desperately to gain attention.”
“Middle-aged” is typically defined in the United States as between 40 and 60 years old, Shapiro’s comments focused more broadly on his perception of the refusal of aging entertainers to accept maturity.
Shapiro slammed by critics
He also singled out comedian and podcaster Theo Von, 45, for dressing and acting much younger than his age, suggesting that the world has lost a touch of class in the modern era.
However, critics questioned why he was fixated on celebrities’ lifestyles and pointed out his own relative obscurity compared to the global popularity of stars like Swift.
One user commented, “You’re jealous, aren’t you? People flew all over the world to see Taylor Swift, and you’re barely a blip on a list of podcasts. You lose.”
A second simply said, “F***ing ridiculous.”
Shapiro concluded by questioning whether this phenomenon would continue indefinitely, in a trend he claims reflects a deeper societal shift across the United States.
He continues to remain a divisive, but influential figure within the modern US climate and political world. For example, his podcast holds a 4.4 star rating on Apple and once ranked second as per Podtrac in the nation.
