Hintergrund: Die Mannschaft der Löwen nutzte das freie Wochenende vor der Partie gegen Stuttgart für einen Team-Ausflug nach Mallorca. Solche Trips sind bei den Bundesliga-Klubs nicht unüblich. Es folgte ein saft- und kraftloser Auftritt am Donnerstagabend gegen den TVB, der so zu zwei immens wichtigen Punkten im Abstiegskampf kam.
Die Art und Weise des Mannheimer Auftritts wurde auch in der Live-Übertragung von Streaming-Dienst Dyn thematisiert. In der 51. Minute leistete sich National-Spielmacher Juri Knorr (zwei Tore, acht Fehlwürfe) einen kapitalen Abspielfehler, Stuttgarts Lenny Rubin nutzte den Konter zum 22:27.

Das war im zweiten Durchgang viel zu wenig Gegenwehr für eine Mannschaft, die das Trikot der Rhein-Neckar Löwen trägt. Es ist einfach brutal enttäuschend. Da gehören wir alle dazu.“
Fakt ist, dass Stuttgart durch Mannheims Nicht-Leistung zu zwei unverhofften Punkten im Abstiegskampf kam. Sonntag (16.30 Uhr, live bei Dyn/Anzeige) müssen die Löwen zur HSG Wetzlar, die Stuttgarter empfangen zeitgleich die Füchse Berlin.
