Shedeur Sanders may have entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick, but early impressions out of Cleveland suggest he could be one of the 2025 Draft’s biggest surprises.
Just weeks into his first offseason program, the Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback is already drawing glowing reviews from team insiders-and sparking excitement among fans.
During a recent radio appearance, Browns color analyst Nathan Zegura was effusive in his praise for Sanders, focusing on the quarterback’s pinpoint accuracy and polished mechanics.
“Shedeur’s looked good,” Zegura said. “His ball placement is elite. His ability to layer throws is elite. I think he’s got plenty of arm strength, we’ve seen that on display certainly in camp… I like him, I like the kid. I was very into the Browns taking him in the first round.”

Though he didn’t end up going that early, Cleveland appears thrilled with what they’ve seen so far. Zegura emphasized that Sanders possesses the skill set to thrive in the NFL, particularly in Ken Dorsey‘s timing-based offensive scheme.
“And if you can be accurate with the football, deliver [it] where it’s supposed to go, you can be very successful in this league for a long time,” Zegura added. “Especially in this style of an offense.”
Growing fan support and depth chart intrigue
Sanders‘ rise is also resonating with the fanbase. Many Browns supporters have taken to social media to express their optimism, with some even predicting that the former Colorado Buffaloes standout will claim the starting job by midseason.
“Still going with what I’ve been saying since the draft,” one fan posted. “Shedeur will be the starter by Week 8.”
Another commenter highlighted that Sanders‘ traits-accuracy, decision-making, and maturity-were always visible during his college career: “So everything that he showed on his tape and most of his stats, got it.”
Sanders is currently listed behind veterans on the depth chart, but if his performance in OTAs continues on this upward trajectory, the Browns could face a genuine quarterback competition come training camp. For now, he remains a developmental prospect, but one with rapidly growing upside and buzz.
At Colorado, Sanders threw for over 3,200 yards in 2024 and maintained one of the best touchdown-to-interception ratios in the country. That poise and production appear to be translating to the pro level.
If he can continue adapting to the speed and complexity of the NFL, Sanders may not just be the future in Cleveland-he could soon be the present.
With strong backing from team analysts and an excited fanbase, Shedeur Sanders is quickly becoming one of the Browns’ most compelling storylines heading into the 2025 season.
